“Relax & Enjoy Classic Rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

Surftides is the BEST location on the central Oregon coast - the surf is LITERALLY at your feet! Open the slider, step onto the protected balcony & enjoy - if you want to get your feet wet just follow the steps right onto the sandy beach. AMAZING sunsets, go for the Classic/Vintage rooms, they have more space to put things, the furniture can be arranged for hours of relaxing as you watch the ocean next to a cozy fire (in the evening). Great service, pool, etc. + bikes for an enjoyable ride along the beach. Coffee is always on in the lobby, fresh cookies, staff is right on it, whatever "it" is. Restaurant has great food - this IS the place to stay!!! We come back year after year!

Room Tip: Make sure slider is clear - go for Classic rooms for comfy furniture!

I was shocked when we arrived and horrified when we went to our room. It was damp and smelled. Wall paper coming off the wall, empty beer bottle on patio, empty coke can on rocks. The very kind Front Desk Agent offered us another room. It was only slightly better. But still in need of major updating. It is in a nice location but the property and rooms are so run down I would not recommend staying.

We arrived at the Surftides in Lincoln City late Friday afternoon. My husband was skeptical when he first saw the hotel as it is older and does not look like much from the outside. Upon entering the lobby I think he started to relax a little, as there were warm, fresh baked cookies there to greet us.

There was only one attendant behind the front desk and she was waiting on another customer so it took awhile to get checked in to our room but she was very cordial and helpful when it was our turn to check in. The keys to the room are "old school" keys instead of the new credit card style keys we have become accustomed to. This was more of an amusement than an inconvenience except that the first key we tried to unlock the door did not work very well. Fortunately it must have just been that particular key. The front desk attendant gave us another one and it worked just fine.

The room was very nice. It was updated, spacious and very clean with a gas fireplace and the bed was extremely comfortable. I believe they have pillow top mattresses. We also had a patio with a view of the ocean which was totally unexpected! It was wonderful! We spent a lot of time on our patio relaxing and enjoying the view. It was so nice just to leave the sliding glass door open and listen to the ocean when we were in the room.

We were able to rent a movie from the front desk attendant for $4.95. That was a nice accommodation. We actually had to close our sliding glass door while we were watching the movie because we could not hear the tv over the sound of the ocean!

The hotel offered a bbq onsite from 4-7. They had beer and wine and the food smelled delicious. They also have a social area with fire pits (and comfortable seating) that were up and going when we returned from dinner that evening. Several people were sitting around the fire enjoying themselves. It was so nice and inviting! We couldn't resist sitting down to enjoy the fire for awhile!

We had dinner at MIST which is adjacent to the hotel. The food and service were great. We had a nice bottle of wine, a fabulous fresh seafood dinner and a decadent dessert. Our waiter was a local kid and so nice! We really enjoyed our evening at this restaurant. We also enjoyed breakfast there the following morning. Our waitress was very friendly and again the food was delicious. I had a seafood omelet that was stuffed with bay shrimp and dungeness crab that was scrumptious.

Any complaints that we may have had at either the hotel or the restaurant were very minor and did not compare with the positive experience that we had staying at this hotel. Considering that the typical hotel my husband and I usually stay at would be considered fairly upscale, I would say that Surftides compared very nicely. I would definitely stay here again!

My mom and I stayed at this hotel for a weekend get away. What a hidden jewel! When you drive up the exterior looks dated and you wonder what you're going to get on the inside. We checked in after a very friendly reservation person helped us on the phone and gave me a AAA discount. The desk clerk was equally as friendly and made us excited about visiting. We went into our room and were so pleased. Two queen beds, a fireplace and an oceanfront view to die for. The room is still a little dated with older carpets but, they have done a great job with the bedding, lighting, painting, Kuerig Coffee pot in the room with coffe, refrigerator, microwave, etc. The room is very clean and quite comfortable. We never left the property for two days. We slept with the patio door open and the fireplace on. If you love the beach then you must go here! The restaurant onsite is soooo good! There is an amazing chef who cooks there and the restaurant prices are so reasonable. We ate there twice and both times it was excellent. They have a guy who entertains from 8-11 PM who is amazing and fun. He's like a solo dualing piano bar dj. Lots of fun with people dancing and having a good time. Upon check out, I turned in the room key, got my receipt and the man even shook my hand and thanked me for staying. This was a class place from the initial phone call to make the reservations to checking out. I cannot wait to go back hopefully very soon! Is a great place for singles, families and romantic get aways.

Room Tip: Get an oceanfront room with a fireplace and ask for a AAA discount.

We enjoyed a weekend escape at the Surftides, where all rooms face the ocean, and we were comfortably accommodated. There is an additional charge ($20/night) for dogs under 30 lbs. Lincoln City is a fine place to explore antique shops and restaurants. The beach is easily accessible from the Surftides and there are conveniently located restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are equipped with small refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee-makers. You can admire the sunset from your room or stroll on the beach. I recommend the Surftides for a peaceful getaway.

Room Tip: Reserve rooms well in advance, and be prepared to pay $20 per night extra if you bring a pet.

I was a little worried when I booked our room because I booked through Hotwire without being able to see the room, which made me nervous. But I was more than pleasantly surprised by the room. Excellent location, right on the beach and the room was amazing!! It was complete with a micro and refrigerator and even had a fireplace and balcony!! The king-size bed was very comfortable and even the pillows were too (and I always have a hard time finding comfortable pillows). Even the towels in the shower were great, (not those skimpy little things that barely cover a child much less an adult.) And you can't beat the price we paid to be right on the beach!! I read the other reviews about the rooms not being updated, but ours obviously was. It was very nice and clean and I didn't see anything that could have used updating. Plus a nice little bonus, they had wine tasting in the lobby both evenings we were there.

The gentleman at the front desk, Alex, was so nice and helpful. He was able to recommend some places for supper and he even shook our hands and thanked us for choosing to stay with them.

I wouldn't recommend the restaurant attached to the hotel though. The restaurant itself was very nice inside and had a beautiful view, but the food was mediocre at best, my husbands steak was overcooked and the razor clams had absolutely no flavor. Plus the service was terrible. I don't think any of the staff really wanted to be there.

Lincoln City is always our first choice of places to go on the coast and now Surftides is our new favorite place. We will definitely be back again and again.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 3rd floor which was almost level with parking lot so not many stairs but had a g...
