I've stayed in the Anchor Inn several times, most recently in May 2013. I absolutely love it. Staying there is like stepping into the past--except with the amenities of good beds, a flatscreen TV, and a fridge and microwave. Memorabilia lines the wood paneled walls along with bookshelves, indeed, crams every inch of space in the building. It's fascinating to wander down the long hallways just to see what's there. Every room has unique decor and includes a sitting room and a bedroom joined by a bathroom. From the free popcorn and cookies served in the afternoons, to the gourmet breakfasts cooked by the owner himself, the food can't be matched, and the service is great. If you're looking for the bland conformity of a franchise hotel, skip this place. Yeah, the bathrooms will probably be bigger and a bit more modern. But if you want the charm and atmosphere of a truly unique motel, a place so memorable and memory laden that staying there can become one of the highlights of the trip, the Anchor Inn is for you.
