“Memorial Day at Hunter’s”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

We went to Lakeview with the high hopes to get to Hang-glide. Well the roads were too muddy to get up on top on Black Cap. So we ended up at Hunter’s for some fine smoked brisket steak, homemade coleslaw, potato salad and the best grilled jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese & chorizo sausage. We enjoyed a dip in the flow-through hot springs swimming pool.

My wife and I have been going to Hunter's since 2005. Back then although still a decent experience this place was not well taken care of. It felt as if the previous owners lost the passion. Since under new ownership the passion is back. Jim the Owner is an amazing host. He is transforming this old place into a high desert gem. The Restaurant and Bar that were once used as storage now is revived and fully functional, very comfortable and has a classic charm. The food coming out of the kitchen is absolutely amazing. Last time we stayed there we the menu was Pizza, hand tossed and priced very reasonably. This visit on Memorial day Weekend they had a BBQ where I had some smoked ribs with homemade potato salad and for an appetizer hand made Jalapeno poppers that were spicy and flavorful. The rooms are in progress of upgrades and 3 rooms now host private patio tubs. Next time the wife and I will have to try one. The pool is outdoor and at night soaking under the stars is awesome. Once again a great stay, beautiful area, great getaway. Thanks again Jim for a wonderful time.

My Husband and I have been visiting Hunters since 2005. In the beginning it was pretty funky but has been going through a miraculous renovation since Jim took it over a few years ago. The pool deck has been resurfaced and the changing rooms are new and clean and the floors are heated. The pool is natural hot spring water and is cleaned on Wednesdays it can get a lil green due to the lack of chemicals but, we enjoy the water so much. The people soaking will tell you it helps their aches and pains and It sure helps mine.
The bar is now open it is a fun and entertaining atmosphere with a grand fireplace and live music on the weekends. The dinning room is open and there is a patio for sunset and geyser viewing. Every time we have visited the menu has been different, the inside out burger and pile o' stuff (French fries, pulled pork, cheese and onions) we ordered last year were great, the pizza we ordered earlier this year was the very best pizza I have ever had it was hand tossed homemade crust, we ordered the vegetarian and it was seriously an inch deep with every fruit and veggie you could ever want on a pizza.
On our last visit on 5/29/12 We had the BBQ that was offered and man o man it was yummy. the brisket was tender, the pulled pork was so good served with homemade coleslaw and a homemade bun. The ribs were great! There was also homemade potato salad YUM! The Jalapeño poppers were of course homemade and very warm but delicious.
The geyser Old Perpetual, was out of order for a while but it too has seen the tender loving care of the new owner Jim it is back on its schedule of every 90 seconds. This visit there were some red headed ducks, lots of baby geese and the usual group of ducks we have been feeding for years. The rooms are also being updated with new paint and furniture including new beds. There are 4 rooms that will eventually have private outdoor soaking tubs.
In reality the very best part of The Hunters experience is the staff and the atmosphere of rest and relaxation, Jim is truly a great and gracious host who is everywhere doing a million things to make you feel welcome with an unhurried demeanor that gives each guest a feeling of being really cared for.
We will definitely be return visitors.

We stayed 2 nights while visiting the Oregon outback. We were in the new building, and it was nice to have an area to walk the dogs nearby. The room was somewhat worn, and the beds sagged in the middle. The surrounding ponds contained a variety of waterfowl, nice for birders. We were so busy exploring the desert that we didn't make time for a soak in the hot spring pool.
I'd stay here again, especially if the dogs were joining us.

Room Tip: Ask for the new building.

We had a great stay. Place to play racketball, feed ducks and geese. A great view of the geyser. The pool is very relaxing. The rooms were very clean and the staff was very nice. The bar and restaurant were very nice and the food and drinks were a good price. They have the best pizza in town. We will definitely be back. It gets better everytime we stay. Our dog loves it too.

This is a great place to stay! It's dog friendly, has a great staff and the hot springs are splendid! The bar and restaurant are extremely charming, with live music on the weekends. The service is very personal and inviting. Altogether a wonderful stay!

Very clean rooms with older furnishings. Beds were very comfortable. Friendly staff and fantastic views. Although the pool was closed for maintenance, we were welcome to take a couple of chairs across the parking lot to sit by the pond and enjoy the ducks and geese. Quiet and relaxing. Also has a view of the geyser. Restaurant & bar was just recently opened and food was great! Only downside was the restaurant & bar were only open on Thursday thru Saturday and there were 3 dogs who roamed the property loose...the dogs were friendly to other dogs & people but our dog was not so if you have an "anti-social" dog like I do you will want to watch for the dogs when you take him out. They Also did not have coffee available in the lobby in the mornings, but we found the best coffee ( great flavor) at the Shell station just down the road.

Room Tip: Eagles Landing Bar in town was a great place to get a bite to eat when the resort's was closed...
