My hopes were high when visiting Dangs Thai Kitchen. The presentation of each dish was lovely, and the service was prompt and pleasant. I purposely ordered dishes I was so fond of ordering at the original Typhoon restaurant (located in northwest Portland when they opened there many years ago) so I would have a direct comparison for freshness and flavor. As soon as the Miang Kum was delivered to our table, I knew something was wrong. I immediately could smell the undesirable strong odor of fish coming from the dried shrimp. The dried shrimp didn't even look the same as the dried shrimp served at Typhoon. The sauce was passable but didn't have the special zing of Typhoon's plum sauce. The Pad Thai tasted weak and uninteresting. The Vegetarian Green Curry was the best of the three dishes, and it didn't come close to the wonderful complex flavors I used to enjoy at Typhoon. Sorry, I can't recommend this restaurant to those who really love Thai food.
