“Unique experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2009

I really can't improve on what others have said but this is a unique place. We enjoyed both the surroundings and the food. Appreciated being able to dress casually and have a relaxing dinner. The molten lava cake was delicious. Chocolate lovers delight!

“Dining at its best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2009

Calderas is amazing - the building is inspiring. The view is excellent. It is one block off main street so the location is prime. Just sitting on the front deck drinking wine is awesome but the food is fantastic. They grow their own produce and the vegetarian polenta dish is sumptuous. I had Creme Brulee for dessert and it was the best brulee I've ever eaten! A must STOP for everyone who goes to Wallowa County.

“Best find this side of Bend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2008

Excellent food, excellent friendly service, wonderful atmosphere. Small menu with nice selection of meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. The vegetables were all fresh and locally grown. The flavors were incredible. What an unexpected find in this remote small town. Highly recommended.

“Classy restaurant in an unexpected location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2008

I'm so glad that Calderas finally has a live website so that I can write a review. . .This is one of our favorite places to eat in Joseph. The atmosphere is lovely--the building faces the Wallowa Mountains with large picture windows framing the view. The interior feels like a Parisian Art Nouveau cafe launched into the 21st century--lots of whimsical wood carvings by local artist Steven Arment. The owner, Nancy, is also a glass artist and her work as well as glass art by other artists adorn the restaurant.

As for the food--it's fresh, local, colorful and tasty. Lunch salads are full of fresh green and come with house made dressings. Dinner is a completely different matter--we've enjoyed the apricot bourbon glaze pork chop and have seen bowls of the Majaka Beef headed to other tables with Thai pasta (still need to try that one).

The wine list is the most complete we've seen in Eastern Oregon. Service is exceptional.

Desserts are exceptional too, especially the creme brulee.

Once the weather's nice enough to sit outside, we'll be back for a garden table on the deck looking out at the mountains.

We own a B&B in town, and we refer our guests to Calderas without any hesitation, knowing that they'll love the atmosphere and have a great meal. And we're tickled when we have the chance to sneak away for a dinner there ourselves!
