“Hood River at a close-to-best western.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

While being right on the river was fantastic, there were a few little amenities I would have expected for such a classy atmosphere and beautiful destination as this. Call me crazy, but a nice hot cup of coffee/tea or a nice cool glass of water (w/lemon?) would've been nice to have available in the lobby. And although they did state on the website that "special requests" would not necessarily be available, I believe special customer service is crucial to returning guests and word-of-mouth advertising (we all know that's the best kind, right?). I had mentioned our stay was a special anniversary surprise for my spouse and maybe a little something extra could be presented. Well....nothing. The food in the hotel's restaurant was good, but I thought for the price of the room, maybe a bit more of a discount on the dinner would have been in order. As far as cleanliness and user-friendly facilities, the hotel was great. The exercise equipment, sauna etc., and the pool ares were wonderful. The gals at the front desk were nice, but in a hurry-up there's-people-waiting sort of way. I would probably stay there again, if I could get a discounted room price. The view was fabulous - as the gorge always is!

Dear Bina4HIM, Thank you for the review of your recent visit to our hotel and for your kind words about our property's amenities and the friendliness of our staff. We appreciate the opportunity to use your review as a training tool to improve our performance. You're right, it would have been nice and we certainly should have provided you a little something extra to make your anniversary celebration even more special. That should have happened and I apologize that it didn't. I do hope that you will have an opportunity to visit us again so that we might make it up to you. Please call me personally so that I might make your reservations, we'll do everything possible to make your next visit an especially enjoyable one.

The hotel was nice and clean. We stayed in a pet friendly room and the room was very clean. No smells from previous pet guests! My daughter left her phone charger and the staff found it and contacted me to verify it was mine and mailed it back to us. I will be staying there again!

We just stayed at this hotel for the first time during a conference and found the location, staff and food to be excellent. The hotel is located right on the Columbia River and has great views of river activities. This hotel is located about an hour from Portland and offers a relaxing stay and access to other parts of the Columbia gorge and Mt. Hood.

Room Tip: Stay in the river side rooms it is worth every penny!

Dear Gxwe, We are so happy that you found our hotel through a conference connection and thank you for the great review. Being just an hour from Portland with conference facilities that can accommodate groups from 10 to 250 guests make us a great choice for a convention. Now that you have found us, we hope you'll come back again soon for a little rest and relaxation.
Summers are pretty special here at the Hood river Inn. Thanks again for your recommendation.

As retirees in our 70's we have upgraded ourselves from Motel 6-ing to Best Western-ing these past several years. Every stay - everywhere - has been well worth it. I love to drive - this 125 mile trip to Hood River from our rainy Washington home was just an overnight getaway, looking for sunshine. We weren't disappointed when it came in our river view sliding door in the morning. Our room was huge with desk & office chair plus a table and chairs, beds were very comfortable as always and spotlessly clean, renovated bathroom was ultra modern, wall pictures were beautiful, tv remote was sanitized - complimentary restaurant breakfast was special - endless accolades for this Plus site are deserved.
Thank you.

We stayed at the Hood River Inn for three nights in April. The setting is gorgeous, as others have noted. The breakfast was an amazing value. It was extremely convenient to buy lift tickets and parking passes for Mt. Hood Meadows, allowing us to go straight to the lift. For the most part, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, including the waitstaff at the restaurant. It was easy walking to downtown Hood River (uphill though!), and the hot tub and pool area are well maintained and have an incredible view of the river.

The parking lot side of the hotel does get road noise, because the highway is very close, and the windows don't open, but except for those minor things, we really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Quite a bit of highway noise on the parking lot side of the hotel

Dear SeattleKayaker, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for selecting our hotel for your recent ski vacation. Through a partnership with Mount Hood Meadows we've enjoyed hosting skiers for over 20 years now, offering what we think is the best valued ski package in the Gorge. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed our unique guest breakfast that is included in that package and the service in our restaurant, Riverside. I am sorry that you were disturbed by some road noise. When staying on the highway side of the hotel I've found that once I achieve a comfortable temperature setting in the room, I then set the controls on the low fan only setting and the soft white noise covers most all other sounds. Thanks for the great review. We hope to see you again soon for your next Gorge getaway, the pool and spa are so enjoyable on a warm summer night.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Hood River is an idyllic small town in North Central Oregon. It sits on the banks of the mighty Columbia River. One of the beauties of Hood River is that it has its own transitional micro-climate. It sits just on the east edge of the Oregon Cascades. The Cascades block a lot of the rain and snow that falls in western Oregon. In fact, just west of Hood River there is twice the rainfall and just east of it is half the rainfall. So it has an extremely pleasant, four season climate.

I travel a lot and stay in a wide variety of accommodations, ranging from places that don't even get a star rating to 5 star resorts. In my own personnel rating system, the Best Western Plus at Hood River gets a 4. A four to me means that it is quiet, comfortable, convenient, spacious enough that you don't get claustrophobia, stylish enough that you actually know they planned it and it didn't "just happen", very clean, and has a great view and has food either in the facility or within a three minute walk.

The Hood River Inn meets all of those requirements. The restaurant actually is a really good one that rivals most of the restaurants in town. That is saying a lot because for a town the size of Hood River, it has many excellent restaurants. They provide you with the requisite "free" breakfast, or you can choose to pay for any of the other great options from the full menu. The Corned Beef Hash is excellent as is the Chorizo.

Of course the view is the "Piece de Resistance" here. The motel is located right on the Columbia River. And when I say it is right on it, I mean they even have a dock that you can tie your boat to. They have a wonderful patio attached to the restaurant that makes full use of the view.

Sometimes when you stay at a place close to the water, you frequently get a "rustic" motif. Not so here. It has a modern look and feel to it.

Hood River is the "windsurfing" capital of the world. So, not only is the view spectacular, you get to watch, or perhaps participate in a wide variety of (mostly) self or wind propelled water sports.

The rooms are quiet, clean, and comfortable. I personally prefer the mini-suites. To me they offer the best value. You kind of get the feel that you are at an upscale Bed and Breakfast when staying in the mini-suites.

I think that Best Western has hit on a great concept with their "Plus" accommodations. You still get to build points like you would at any Best Western and you get a REALLY nice place to stay. You don't feel as if you need to clean the room before staying in it as you do in so many of the non "Plus" versions.

If you are planning a trip to the Hood River area, this is an excellent place to call home for a few days. But, plan ahead, especially in the summer months. It is extremely popular. That holds true for any accommodation in Hood River during the summer. I have tried to get a last minute room in Hood River in the summer and have not found anything within 30 miles!

Room Tip: Ask for a river view and a mini-suite if at all possible.

Have stay at BW's recently only because of a stay 3 times/get a free night promotion. but have loved each hotel and stay - this property no exception.

Big, remodeled rooms. Steps away from the river - beautiful views. For $100, was on first floor with access to walking path. Across the parking lot from Starbucks, right off highway, 1 mile or so to "downtown"

The deck here in the summer is going to be unbelievable, but as $250- 400 per night on the weekends in the summer... don't know if I like BW THAT much....Supply and demand wins....

Staff is the best. Suzanne the bartender was great - Dinner was the best I have had in a long time - Veal Scallopini.

My only issue, was I was directly across from ice machine and my luck, someone wanted ice at midnight, 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.... super loud and woke me up each time, but that is easily fixed for next time..

Dear LP1009, We are happy you've discovered Best Western and especially happy that you've found our hotel. Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for mentioning the great service you received from Suzanne and the fine meal you enjoyed in Cebu. Both she and our chef will be delighted when I share your comments with them. We strive to provide the best lodging and dining experience in the Columbia River Gorge and also to be the best value. As you mentioned, summer rates are higher than in the off season but there are many room choices well below the $250 to $400 price point. With think our rates are very competitive for our market as we are the only hotel in Hood River with the full complement of amenities including, a full service restaurant and cocktail lounge, a served complimentary guest breakfast, a river front swimming pool and exercise facility, a sauna, an indoor and outdoor spa and free high speed WI-FI. Follow us on Facebook for the best deals available year around. Thanks again for your review, we look forward to seeing you this summer.
