“Best place to stay in Hood River!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

We were looking for a nice place to spend 2 nights in Hood River and weren't sure about a "Best Western Plus" -- but when we arrived we realized it was a stellar property. After a quick and easy check-in (we had booked online in Vancouver, BC through Expedia), we were given Room #329, which is on the top floor of the brand new section, facing the Columbia River. It was perfect! The room was done in modern neutrals and featured gorgeous photos by a local photographer. Although the highway was close by, you couldn't hear it from the room, nor could you hear a lot of noise from the adjacent outdoor pool area (which was also really nice). King sized bed was ultra comfy, brand new flat screen TV was nice to have. Large bathroom was great: granite counters, 2 sinks, dual-flush toilet, waffle robes, slippers, full-length mirror, travertine tiles, Grohe faucets, rainhead shower, etc. Really nicely done. Although we stayed without kids, kids would be welcome and would have had fun. On-site restaurant was also amazing! While not a "luxury" property, we can't recommend this hotel enough. Very impressed and will stay here again if in Hood River.

Room Tip: Stay in the new section, which is the easternmost section, closest to the pool. Be sure to stay on t...

With only one night in this area, we reserved a room with a view and 2 queen beds and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. The room we were in was huge and very nice - granite countertops in the bathroom and the extra sink outside the bathroom, updated decor in the room, flat screen TV, desk AND a table with 2 chairs. Yes, the room was big enough for that! Beds and pillows were very comfy, but the reason for the room was the view and we enjoyed sitting out on the small balcony and admiring it. Our room was in the west wing, that's the wing closest to the bridge. We had the balcony door open most of the night and yes, you can hear the vehicles going over a section of the bridge. One of us wore earplugs and went right to sleep. Early in the morning when the traffic is more intense the one without earplugs closed the door and went back to sleep.

The included breakfast was great! Despite the bridge noise, we would not only stay here again, but recommend it!

Room Tip: View of the river is worth it, you might want earplugs though

This Best Western property is above average compared to other Best Western hotels/motels I've stayed at. The north facing rooms have a spectacular view of the Columbia River and the hills in Washington state compared to the south facing rooms looking onto the parking lot. The east wing rooms are very nice but as you get further from the lobby the closer you are to I-84 traffic noise. I echo the complaint about the 4pm check-in time. I've stayed at hundreds of hotels and rarely see check-in so late. To me that implies they don't have the staff to get the rooms ready in three plus hours. Reception said to call them to find out if my room was ready when they should be calling me instead, as a courtesy . At 4pm, the lobby got real busy as everyone desended to complete check-in. The breakfast voucher was a nice touch. The restaurant has an outdoor deck facing the river.

Room Tip: Get a second floor river facing room, if possible.

Dear PDX-Traveler-Guy, Thanks for your review and for the kind comments about the quality of our rooms and our unique guest breakfast. I am sorry that the guaranteed 4 p.m. check in time was frustrating for you and that we did not do a better job of communicating with you. On most days the check in times are balanced and things work very well so that most all requests for early check ins can be met. But on summer Fridays and Saturdays nearly half of our guests are here to attend weddings with special room location requests and it is not unusual for many to show up for check in as early as 10 a.m. Being that our checkout time is a generous twelve noon and many guests even request late check outs, you're right, it is difficult to accommodate the very early arrivals and still have all rooms cleaned in just a few hours. We do our best to honor all special requests and do hope that should you have occasion to visit us again that we will be more able to honor yours. I promise you, we will do our best!

Stayed for 1 night. Great Hotel right on the river. Was a little disappointed that the majority of the Kite Boarding was downriver on the other side of the bridge. The hotel is in a beautiful location with a great lawn out back. The girls had a blast chasing each other, rolling down the hill and climbing on the rocks. We had a very good breakfast at the hotel the next morning and a nice family walk along the river. My only regret was that we missed the little town of Hood River hanging at the hotel.

Really great for families that are outdoor activists. Close to wind surfing, sailing at a marina. Stay on second floor and up. Nice patio so you get a view and people on the walking path aren't right in front of you. Liked the restaurant. Good food and view of the river. Close to Mt. hood and dive on Fruit Loop drive is beautiful. All the fruit trees, so nice. Room was nice and slept well.

My wife and I stayed for a night on our way through and were thoroughly delighted. We loved our 3rd floor room in the East wing. We were near the elevator and never heard a sound. We also had a private balcony overlooking the River and the bed was really comfy. I had the pasta dish in their very nice restaurant and can say it was one of the best I have ever had.....and I have had many dishes of pasta in my life. Breakfast was also excellent. The location is great. You will hear some road and bridge noise from your balcony, but the view and location are worth it. You can walk along the river for a mile or so and just enjoy.

Pleasantly surprised. We had a clean, comfy, and spacious first floor(updated) room overlooking the river. Unfortunately, due to the fact there is a walking trail right outside the door, we kept our curtains closed so we had to step outside to enjoy the view. The cars crossing the bridge make
a bit of racket, but after awhile it becomes white noise :) On the opposite side of the hotel you'll have to deal with highway noise. But the room itself was fairly quiet and we were able to sleep just fine. The complimentary breakfast was very good and is served to you in the inn's restaurant that includes a great view of the river. We're early risers so we were seated and served immediately, but this being a large inn I have to assume there is a wait when the inn is full and everyone shows up at the same time.
Overall, a nice place and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the river-side with a balcony. If you're in a hurry, get to breakfast early
