“Oneonta Gorge to Horsetail Falls”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Had a lovely hike from the Oneonta Gorge trailhead (just west of the Tunnel), up and over the bridge and down behind Upper Horsetail Falls to come out on Horsetail Falls. There is a beautiful viewpoint between the Oneonta bridge and Upper Horsetail Falls that's work the walk all by itself. It's also exceedingly cool that the trail goes behind the upper falls, with a nice view down the creek out to the Columbia. There's a bit of steep involved, but the payoff is a beautiful hike, and all downhill on the way out ;).

About three miles total for the loop, which will put you back on the scenic highway about 1/4 mile from the starting trailhead - normally I would warn you off against walking along the highway, but there is a large shoulder through this stretch.

“Beautiful and right on the highway.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

If you choose to do a little hiking you'll find beautiful falls along this trail. Less than a mile up and you can walk under a waterfall. It's a popular trail so don't expect privacy.

“Not as crowded”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

right along the the Old Columbia River Highway (Rte. 30), this is easy to find, next to the overcrowded Multnomah Falls. you will find it, it's marked and right along the highway. if you head west toward portland, this will be the first set of falls you will see. and pretty much the only ones you can see without hiking (other than Multnomah)

parking will be on the right (again heading west to portland), falls will be on your left. Handicap accessible, and very jaw dropping, the height is about 200 feet?

it's a must see, if the parking lot is packed, wait for a spot, you won't be disappointed.

“Great easy hike to several amazing falls”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

The hike takes you around a loop that ends up back on highway 30 1/2 mile from where you started. The walk back is easy and has a cool tunnel through the mountain. Definitely worth it. Will do Oneonta Falls next time - recommended by a local but you get wet in that one.

“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

Another great thing to take in as you travel the old highway 39 along the Columbia Gorge! Easily accessible, right off the road, and you can walk down to the base of the falls, too!
