“A Must Drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

A most spectacular drive not to be missed if you are visiting the Portland area. Many options to pull off for walks, viewing waterfalls, watching kite boarders and even wine tasting in the Hood River area

“Spectacular nature and Oregon wine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Be sure to take the "old" Columbia River Gorge highway which parallels I84 out of Portland toward the town of Hood River. There are multiple waterfalls and hikes along this route. Also worth a stop are the fish hatchery and dam on the River side of I84- fascinating to see the fish ladders that thousands of fish daily use to skirt the dam to get upstream, and see the giant sturgeon fish and incubation grounds for literally millions of fish that are released after growing in the hatchery. Along and off the regular I 84 highway, there are also a multitude of wineries making many different varieties of Oreagon wine --all with tasting rooms--a good way to stop and take a break from your travels.

“A pleasant way to spend a day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

The gorge is beautiful, especially if you use state highway 30 west of Portland rather then the adjacent Interstate Highway 84. Be sure to stop at the Vista House, which provides an excellent vantage point, as well as thr traditionl stop at Multnomah Falls. Children will surely enjoy and appreciate the falls, but watch them carefully because parts of the path to the top of the falls can be slippery.

“God's beauty for all to enjoy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

There are many things to do in this area that take you out in nature to enjoy what God has created for us. You can find waterfalls alongside the highway and also that you can hike short distances and also long distances. The best book is Curious Gorge to see the popular and not so popular hikes and attractions in the area.

There are many museums along the river...use Trip Advisor to find them (I have).

Accomodations can be camping all of the way to 5 star hotels and Bed & Breakfasts.

Don't miss taking the time to enjoy this area. If you're lucky you will get to the see eagles and also the kite boarders on the water!
