“Great location, no parking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed the lovely lobby sitting area and convenient location. We could walk anywhere in the downtown business area. Our room did not face the street or railroad tracks, was clean, fairly small, and we did not spend extra time in it. There was no problem with noise. The staff is pleasant, not exceptional. The lobby area is beautiful, really gives the sense of an old classic hotel, and is very comfortable to sit and read or just relax. It is nice to get the $10 discount on breakfast in the restaurant, but the food was only average. One issue is parking--there is none. Parking is on the street, and on weekdays you can purchase a parking pass for $3/half day and $5/full day that allows you to park at metered parking. I would stay here again, but would try to get a room with a bit more space.

Successful Solution to Parking. As many travelers to Hood River have experienced in the past 30 days, the City of Hood River has an Urban Renewal Project one block south of the hotel. A positive note will be local residences and visitors will be enjoying new walkways, parking and better utility services in the near future. The City of Hood River recognized the parking dilemma you experience and took measures to correct the shortage of metered parking in the downtown area.

Basically, ‘Permit’ parking folks began overflowing metered parking when the ‘Permit’ parking-lot was closed by construction. Too many cars and too few spaces. On September 16th, 2013 the City of Hood River, defused the overcrowding of downtown by opening a long term parking-lot area to the ‘Permit’ parking folks displaced by construction.

Happy Campers again. The Hood River Hotel $3/half day and $5/full day will allow you to park at metered parking areas. At the time of check-in, just ask for a parking pass and you will be good to go.

Hood River, Oregon is a quaint small town with a wonderful downtown filled with small boutique shops, restaurants and pubs. Occasionally, we have a little housekeeping to do to maintain our youthful looks. For visitors who may still have questions regarding parking or the Urban Renewal Project, please contact our staff at 1-800-386-1859 and we will be happy to help.

Cheers,
Patricia

We stayed at the Hood River Hotel for one night in August.

We decided to stay at a historic property rather than going for a chain hotel. We knew there would be good things and bad things about that.

The location is great. Pretty much everything you want to do in Hood River is within walking distance.

Parking is a bit of a pain. You have to park on the street and either feed a meter or pay for a 1/2 day or full day parking pass at the hotel. (At least the parking pass is available; it would be really annoying to have to keep going to feed the meter when you're doing something else in H.R.)

The room was somewhat small, and the bathroom was really small. The bathroom only had a toilet and small shower in it. The sink was actually in the bedroom.

We also found the bed to be quite soft. It was ok for one night, but I didn't want to sleep in it again.

You can get a $10 voucher for breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The breakfast was quite good. Although, the order of pancakes is ridiculously big (and a little dense). My wife couldn't even finish half of them. I think it would be better for them to reduce the size and price.

Everyone working at the hotel was very friendly and helpful.

It was nice to stay here, but next time I'll probably go for the up-to-date room and the cheaper price.

The room wasn't the most comfortable.

Hello Marietta Georgia;
Thank you for taking time to comment on your recent stay. We truly apologize for the inconvenience you had with parking.

As of September 16th, 2013, the City of Hood River revised their parking/construction plan's one block south of the hotel to alleviate any problems guests and travelers maybe experiencing in Hood River. The ‘Big Headache’ was caused when a large “Permit” parking-lot was closed and the overflow of vehicles then pushed into the metered downtown area.

Too many cars and not enough parking spaces. On September 16th, 2013, a new area was open for “Permit” parking-lot folks and life is much better for all downtown businesses and not just the Hood River Hotel. Thank you for your honesty and will pass along your comments to our city managers.

Cheers;
Patricia

We stayed here for 1 night when attending an event in the area. I stay in a lot of hotels and I will say the front desk staff was the friendliest I have experienced in a loong time. Great job! We arrived before check in and just wanted to make sure we had a room, since we wouldn't be back until after the event much later in the evening. We were told our room could be ready early and they would call us. We were able to check in about 2 hours early.

The room is old fashioned and quaint. The bed was a little soft for my taste. And although it appeared that we had A/C, 3 of us could not figure out how to operate it. So we opened the window and turned on the fan. Although then it was a bit noisy with the train and the fan running. Plus, we got a 1st floor room that had a view of the pizza parking lot and we could hear conversations in the parking lot all night.

Breakfast the next morning was a breakfast burrito which was delicious. Parking is on the street, but $5. is a steal for downtown parking. And this hotel is walking distace to most of Hood River.

We stayed at this hotel the first night of our vacation. We decided to try to stay in local historic lodging instead of the usual chains. We had a nice stay for one night in this charming hotel. The sink / mirror set-up was unhandy being in the corner next to the wall & not very many outlets. The bed and pillows need to be replaced. That being said, it was a neat place to stay and our breakfast omelet couldn't have been better!! We would stay there again.

The historic Hood River Hotel is centrally located in the heart of Hood River. There no need to drive, most place are in walking distance. The courtyard room with queen size bed is very cozy. The floor are squeaking, but that can be expected for hotel of over century year old. I will definitely stay here again, and encourage others to do the same. BTW, if you like Bloody Mary, the hotel bar make an awesome one with bacon...yum!

Room Tip: Suites with kitchette are more roomier, recommend checking out website prior to room selection.

If you like staying at a place with history then this is the hotel for you. It's clean, the beds are comfortable and the staff are wonderful. As you would expect with old buildings the floors creek and it can be noisy if you are a light sleeper ... They do provide ear plugs. I loved this place for what it is ..... A quirky histrionic hotel which has modern facilities and a warm welcome. I would definitely stay here again.

From reading the reviews, I expected either a terrific historic hotel lacking modern convenience or an outdated shabby hotel. This was neither. As a historic hotel, there is plenty that they could do better without damaging the historic character, but it's not bad as is. On the plus side: The location is great; you can walk anywhere in downtown Hood River. The front desk people at the hotel are great. They do their jobs well. Parking is $5, which is cheap for a downtown hotel. Rooms are a decent size for an older hotel. There is a quirky elevator to get your bags to the room. Train noise didn't bother me. Minus: if you don't update, cleaning is even more important, and this was not cleaned well enough. In the lobby, there is coffee but no tea. Breakfast is too high priced for its midrange quality. Rooms lacked the charm you would expect. "View"? Really? A sliver of river in the distance is not a view.
