Hood River is a beautiful place and I think it's a must for anyone visiting or in Portland. Hood River hotel, in my experience is the best place to stay. Right in town and walking distance to many little places to eat, shop, taste wine and get the full Hood River experience. I've also sayed in Hood River away from downtown in a chain hotel, and while it was nice, I would say Hood River Hotel is a much better location. The rooms a older, but totally comfortable, the windows open and overall it's really peaceful and quiet. Hotel staff is friendly but not overly nosy. I usually shy away from hotels/B&B's that have too much of a "victorian, floral, antique-y feel," which I thought Hood River Hotel may have but it was in good taste and not claustrophobic at all.
