“Love Hood River”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Hood River is a beautiful place and I think it's a must for anyone visiting or in Portland. Hood River hotel, in my experience is the best place to stay. Right in town and walking distance to many little places to eat, shop, taste wine and get the full Hood River experience. I've also sayed in Hood River away from downtown in a chain hotel, and while it was nice, I would say Hood River Hotel is a much better location. The rooms a older, but totally comfortable, the windows open and overall it's really peaceful and quiet. Hotel staff is friendly but not overly nosy. I usually shy away from hotels/B&B's that have too much of a "victorian, floral, antique-y feel," which I thought Hood River Hotel may have but it was in good taste and not claustrophobic at all.

The hotel was old, but that's part of it's charm. If you're looking for an updated, modern hotel, this is definitely not for you. My room was clean and cozy and the bed was pretty comfortable. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

A few things to note:
* There is not parking lot. You can purchase a city pass to park on the street at the front desk
* I don't believe there is air conditioning (at least I couldn't find a thermostat), but I didn't miss it. The windows are large and you get a nice breeze, even in august.
* Its in the center of town so if you are a light sleeper, this may not be the place for you. While I wouldn't say it was noisy, you do hear street sounds.
* You get a breakfast voucher for $10 at the restaurant, which is actually pretty good.
* The location is great and within walking distance of everything

Room Tip: You may want to request a top floor room if city sounds bother you at night.

Hello New Jersey; the staff at the Hood River Hotel is definitely top notch. As a family owned and operated business we have always strive to hire people who enjoy working and living in the gorge as much as we do.

All 41 guest rooms and suites are air conditioned. Our third floor rooms have central air conditioning while the first and second floor rooms have an in-room air conditioning unit.

We have a unique property and recommend to readers of Trip Advisor and future guest to call our reservation staff if you having questions regarding suites and guest rooms with best views, quietest, pet friendly or largest in size.

Cheers
Patricia

I stayed in a room with two queen beds with my sister. The hotel was pretty and old-fashioned, the people were friendly, and they had a few snacks to buy at the front desk. We took advantage of a Sunday night deal they have with a free breakfast.

The staff was really nice and helpful and the location of the hotel was perfect. However, the hotel is so old and the room we had was very small with a funny smell. The noise in the morning was not welcomed. Overall, would not stay at this hotel again.

Thank you for your comments. Yes, we are in the perfect location in downtown Hood River, Oregon. We have always embraced our history with our standard guest’s room dating back to 1911 filled with today’s modern amenities such as free WI Fi, and bathrooms w/shower or bath tub. However, with the help of your review we discovered the in room air conditioner unit was not working optimally. Since, repairing the unit the ‘funny smell’ no longer exist. Properties truly don’t prefer a negative review but thank you for your honesty and through your honesty we were able to correct the problem. We hope you will give us the opportunity to be your host during your next visit to the Hood River.

Cheers;
Patricia

HRH was a great experience! As I am one that often stays at "chain" hotels, HRH was a great change up. The Historic Hotel is small and quaint, with tons of charm! The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. HRH has amazing breakfast, in which they give you at $10 off coupon (basically one meal free) everyday. It is located in the heart of Downtown Hood River and you are able to walk everywhere from the hotel.
I would absolutely stay here again when we return!

We checked into a pet friendly suite. Were warmly greeted and were given a "doggie welcome pack". Our dog is still playing with the toys! Absolutely great! Can't beat the downtown location and proximity to biking, wind surfing, wineries, etc.

The hotel is over 100 years old and the remodel was done in the 90's (if I'm remembering correctly) so you definitely can't expect a modern hotel here. But that's one of the reasons we love it! It's so fun to think of the people in history who stayed at the hotel--much of the original fixtures and finishes are in the hotel, as well as the original signage and bar. The elevator is particularly charming! We enjoyed being a part of history during our stay.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to move us, at no charge, to a different room that was quieter. Every interaction we had with the people was fantastic.

The hotel is right in the middle of downtown Hood River, so it's easy access to walk or bike anywhere you want to be downtown. And the Hood River restaurants, shops, and breweries are amazing.

The hotel restaurant is excellent, with so many delicious breakfast choices, including some excellent vegetarian and vegan options. Definitely don't miss the breakfast!

The noise is really the only negative, and you will definitely need the earplugs they provide. We think the many benefits far outweigh the noise drawback, and would stay there again.
