So I've eaten at this restaurant now about 6 times in last year+, each time trying to give it another chance. It happens to be convenient location for me, but that's about it. This last time I went in put it on the "never again" list for me. We were seated quickly enough, which can sometimes be a problem even on a very slow night. We were celebrating my birthday with my wife and son, and when seated asked the waiter for a kids menu. My son is 12. Most restaurants we eat locally have kids menus for 12 and under, and my son was not terribly hungry and only wanted a grilled cheese. Also, most restaurants even are happy to serve my 16 year old from the kids menu if she's not very hungry. They don't care and don't make you feel bad about it all. In this case, the waiter paused, said ok in a very slow tone, furrowed his brows, and did a double take at my son as he walked away slowly. This attitude wasn't lost on me. He came back and before giving him the menu asked him how old he was. He said he was 12, and the waiter said their kids menu was only for kids 10 and under. He proceeded to make a huge deal about "not making a big deal about it, and keeping it just between us, but next time might be different". Seriously? I let it slide as we were celebrating my birthday, but this was completely inappropriate. How many restaurants have kids menus that cut off at 10, and then berate you when your 12 year old wants a simple grilled cheese sandwich only and not a $40 steak? The service continued to be terrible with the final piece being he dropped the bill in the butter dish, and we've had this same waiter before, with similar poor service. It's like there's some attitude about trying to be an upscale high end restaurant when they're not. The food is only ok. Mediocre at best. The best thing is the pork chop, which happened to be sold out when I tried to order for my birthday dinner. I'm suspicious after the whole kids menu incident to be honest. Frankly I'm surprised this place is still in business. I will never go back. I encourage others to go to places that actually treat you with respect and have good service and value you as a patron. I could easily tolerate the mediocre fare, but the service is the worst I've ever seen in the entire larger Portland metro area. How this waiter is employed is beyond me. I know good service, having been a waiter, and a frequent patron of fine dining. You'll be lucky to get an "OK" service and meal here.
