“A bit disappointed this time.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

For a Wednesday night it was pretty busy. Don't know why other than thinking slow staff had something to do with it.
After a 15 minute wait, waitress offered a small booth which we accepted.
We ordered at first encounter with waiter since we read online before leaving the hotel.
We split a dinner and ordered an extra salad.
Salads were fine. When he brought the dinner plate, it was not what we ordered. (stuffed chicken breasts, filled with broccoli bacon and cheese with hollandaise sauce) was some kind of beef dish.
10 minutes later came our food. Looked good but. Ended up being pretty dry, which was a shame because the stuffed part was delicious.
Ordered a coconut creme pie because they looked great, but the crust was doughy and not cooked enough. Disappointed X 2.

“Chain restuarant with down home taste”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

Stopped in for a light dinner and left full. There are 61 of these restaurants in 8 western states. You don't get a foot print like that if you don't know what you are doing. I settled on the pot roast and enjoyed every tasty, juicy bit of it. If you are traveling and see one of these, stop in for some home cookin'

“Yuck”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

Yuck. My daughter ordered a chicken pot pie and found hair (more than one) cooked into the crust. Then my son had their bread pudding and there was a hair in that too. Management did remove the cost of the items but without any apologies. We have been going to this dinner regularly but never again. Poor food quality. Poor management. Servers are very kind though.

“Disappointed in the additional charges”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

We try to stop at as many Black Bear Diners as possible, as overall we like them very much. But there are also differences between them, in portion size and other services too. Today we went to the one in Grants Pass. We were offered a choice of potato with our tri tip dinner. My husband elected a baked potato, and I elected a mashed potato. Mine came without gravy, and so waitress asked if I wanted some, which I did. When our bill arrived, we were charged nearly $2 extra for the baked potato, and nearly $1 extra for my gravy. What a surprise, as the up charge was not mentioned when we were given the potato option. But we simply paid it but also don't think we will go back anytime soon. We also noticed that the Grants Pass store serves the side salad on small plates, and the other stores we routinely visit serve it in large plates. - - Overall we like Black Bear, but the Grants Pass store is not our favorite. Our favorites are the restaurants in Yreka, and also Shasta.
