Personnel at the Best Western Mt Hood Inn recommended the Ice Axe Grill, which is located next door to the Inn, for dinner. We initially went to the Ice Axe Grill and request to look at a menu as the Ice Axe is also a micro-brewery and our reconnoitering of other restaurants in the immediate area was pretty disappointing. We encountered a male wait server, black tee shirt, black jeans and black scruffy un-shaven face who put the menu in our face and didn’t say anything. We read it and said we would be back. We returned later and for dinner considering this the lesser of evils.
The wait / servers are male and female all costumed in black tees & black jeans, the females minus the un-shaven faces. Upon entering the facility we were essentially not greeted by the same person who we had dealt with earlier. A different male server provided menus and water, attitude and disappeared, I got a phone call and I disappeared for a while too. Eventually we ordered, my partner order a hamburger, what can go wrong there, and I order a spinach salad with salmon. The place can accommodate a fair number of customers and was partial filling up which gave us a bit more confidence. Fortunately we were in no hurry and neither were they.
Eventually the food came, the hamburger was above average, the salmon and spinach salad was wonderful. The presentation of the salad with the salmon was extremely pleasing; I would have liked to have photographed it. The salad was dressed with crumpled goat cheese, several kinds of nuts and berries. The combination of all these ingredients was very delicious, each mouthful offered contrasting flavor with the salmon which also was extremely well prepared. The salad proportion was most generous and very filling. I don’t think I have ever had a salad that looked and tasted as good anywhere before. Whoever prepared the salad had a real appreciation and care for the food and its presentation as well as imagination for taste. Congratulations to the ICE AXE GRILL.
Hey Dude, I can accept attitude for that kind of food!
