We escaped the cold fog inversion in the valley and went to the south coast for 5 days this January. We found the Gold Beach Inn to be the best value in the three places we stayed, so much so that we extended our stay from 2 to 3 days. We had a big room with ocean view and a kitchenette for $75/night plus tax, so about $81 total. Ask for the kitchenette, not all the rooms have them. I hate going out for breakfast. The room had a king sized bed, and a sitting area by the window with two cushy swivel recliner chairs and a table. Since we didn't want to climb stairs, we took the first floor, but the views are certainly better on floors 2 and 3. There's a nice little garden and a pavilion with hottubs out by the beach -- aaaah, lovely on a sunny January day to sit in the hottub and watch the ocean. The rooms are well back from Highway 101, so there is no traffic noise. We walked the beach every day with a plastic bag each and picked up trash, some of which was interesting. We were hoping to visit small museums on our trips, but a lot of them are closed in January. Many of the restaurants also have reduced hours, but we found lots of good food nevertheless and with the kitchenette, we sometimes got coldcuts and English muffins from the grocery store and made sandwices in the room for lunch. We would efinitely go back.
All the rooms have an ocean view, so you cant miss on that. Choices are number of beds, with or with...
