“This Time Just Average.. What Happened?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2007

We stay at the Ireland's at least twice a year, the latest being the 4th of July week this year (2007).

For many stays the property was amazingly cared for and we raved about our time there for weeks after our visit. Now it seems that the new owners do not have the green thumb or time to take care of the little details we came to expect. We are not picky or snooty, we just remember what the lawns and flowers looked like before and what they look like now.

The property has a disappointing continental breakfast that features some of the worst coffee we have ever had. We made a quick trip to the market to get the fixens to make our own after one morning.

The Rustic Lodges are still fun and we love the location. The Ocean is just a short walk away and fireplace is great. New carpet has been rolled out in the lodges and they are clean. Watch out for the golf carts the cleaning crew uses in the morning, they start running early and run full blast for a few hours.

Maybe next time we visit it will be better.

Had two nights at Ireland's and loved the location. We stayed in the Monterey cabin, with a great view of the ocean. The beach was only a short walk away, and the oceanside hot tubs were also a nice feature. Breakfast was disappointing.

We're from the East coast, and hauled our kids out West for a two-week drive along the gorgeous California and Oregon coast (they didn't seem to mind that we extended their Spring break....). The whole trip was fantastic, and -- along with the two days we spent in Bodega Bay, CA -- the family consensus was that our two nights and three days at Ireland's Rustic Lodges took the gold medal (for lodging and overall experience). The staff was incredibly nice, and we thought the place was run like clockwork. The location is beautiful, of course, and we made great use of the four trails to the ocean and all of the other amenities (both at the hotel and nearby). Vacation is all about creating memories, and our time at this hotel certainly didn't disappoint in that respect. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

One note--I clicked on this site for the first time after our trip when doing a nostalgic web-look at some of the places we visited during our trip. I was surprised to see the negative reviews on this site. It literally is as if those reviewers (assuming those reviews were even written by more than one person) are commenting on another hotel, or making up their supposedly bad experiences out of whole cloth.

This was the nicest place to stay! The staff was very friendly. We stayed in the Pacific Breeze Building, and had a gorgeous view of the ocean & a woodburning stone fireplace that was re-stocked with wood every day. Another plus, this is a smoking room!! The only complaint that I would have is the people above us liked to polka at 3 in the morning!

After reading the negative reviews of this place, we were a little hesitant to stay. We are so glad that we did. We were in the "Cape Cod" house. It had a private deck and lawn area and also its own garage. The beach is only a few minutes walk away. We enjoyed ourselves on the beach even though it was quite cold!! We built and added to driftwood "houses", flew kites, and just enjoyed walking along the surf. We would defintely stay here again. The spas were beautiful too!!

We spent a beautiful weekend celebrating my 49th birthday. The room was overlooking the Pacific Ocean, with a wonderfully cozy fireplace (all wood provided!) and confortable bed, couch and easy chairs. Wonderful smelling rustic wooden paneling and very clean and updated bath; simple and functional.

The outdoor spa overlooking the ocean was a definite bonus, perfect for relaxing after a fun day of walking along the beach.

Added bonus of a 15% discount coupon to the nearby Spinner's Restaruant, where the steak dinner was delicious.

The continental breakfast was ample with above average selections. Service staff were friendly and very helpful, making this birthday trip one to remember.

We have stayed at Ireland's for over 20 years as my wife used to live in Gold Beach. BOY, has it gone downhill since the new owners took over last year.
When I became sick over the last Thanksgiving Holiday we called and asked to cancel but the person said we would still be billed. I asked to speak to the manager and they said no one was there. I asked for the manager to call us and no one ever did.
We drove to Gold Beach last weekend (120 miles) as we now have a dispute over the room charges. They would not get a manager or anyone to speak to us about what we believed were incorrect charges. When we made the reservation we were not told of a 24 hour cancellation charge. To top it off, they are trying to charge us an extra 10 dollars because we intended to bring our dog. Even tho we didn't stay there they still want to add the extra charge for dog cleaning. The inability to speak to any management person has turned me away from ever staying at Ireland's again and to think we used to stay there at least 3-4 times a year for multiple days.
