The hotel itself - staff and accomodations - average. The spa and fine dining restaurant - fantastic and worth a visit - might just recommend against staying the evening.

Read through the other Trip Advisor comments and would agree with nearly all.

Decent sized rooms, but bedding, towels were rough to the touch. Picked up traffic noise from the highway which impacted sleeping. I realize it's February, but very under-staffed. At one point, on a Friday, stood at the front desk at 8ish for over 5 minutes before someone appeared to assist.

Breakfast restaurant on Saturday morning were clearly put out by guest questions. One patron approached the hostess stand to ask for a to-go coffee, and the waiter walking by said "Sure, I'm in the middle of something, just be patient." The restaurant manager, clearly having a bad morning, lamented about the days problems in the bus station, which we could all hear. Not a way to kick off the morning.

The spa facility, however, was great. Very recently rennovated, great wood fireplace in the waiting room, great men's facilities, and comfortable rooms. The therapist I worked with was average, but this is likely just a hit and miss issue.

Additionally, the site restaurant for dinner was exceptional. Great dinner (excellent lamb) and desserts, and a larger than usual wine list for the area, with some great selections. It comes coupled with a great view.

We just returned from two nights at Salishan, using vouchers for our stay and quite honestly not sure if we'd return on our own dime. Sadly, the property is situated across the hiway from the beach so the views aren't what you'd hope for at the coast.

The high point was the room itself. Our "premier room" at the end of the Alder building, had lots of windows and a soaring vaulted cieling. It appeared to have been recently redecorated in very tasteful, rich colors with a large couch and two overstuffed chairs. Two wooden rockers were out on the deck. Even with the heat and fireplace completely turned off, we had to sleep with the door open. The king size bed was comfortable, however, the sheets felt starched.

A couple mishaps included the bathroom sinks which would not drain so a maintenance person was dispatched immediately. Housekeeping never showed up after the first night. Admittedly the "do not disturb" sign was posted overnight, but we removed it when we left the room before11am. We reported the oversight when we returned that evening. There were very few guests so I can't imagine they were overly busy. Also there was only one bathrobe in the closet, with two belts. Glass tumblers were provided for cold beverages, but the coffee station offered only paper cups. And lastly, at $250/night for the room, there was an additional charge for the internet.

For a free stay, I shouldn't overly complain. But if I were a paying customer, I'd be writing the property manager after posting this review!

I live in Dallas, Texas and have been going to Salishan since I was a young man in the employ of The New York Times 31 years ago. After many, many trips, I still feel Salishan is one of the world's best getaway destinations at anytime of the year. The ONLY people who cannot appreciate the incredible Salishan experience are shallow people indeed -- for them I recommend a Holiday Inn with a free all-you-can-eat salad bar with the lovely orange shag carpet in the rooms.

My wife and I have been to Salishan before and decided to go there to celebrate our 19th anniversary. The trip was great and we really enjoyed our room. We enjoy going over to the resort during the off season for peace and quiet and we got what we wanted. The resort’s website indicates they have 205 room, during my walks through the resort, I think I saw 5 cars from visitors. In our building, there are 8 rooms and we were the only people in our building. The two building to the right of us were empty as well.

Going to the Oregon Coast in January can be rainy and cold. Our drive over was in a storm with high winds and rain. We arrived around 7:30pm and we were in our room by 7:45pm. Had room service by 8:30. We sat in our room and watched the rain hit the balcony.

We brought our two small dogs and one nice feature of Salishan are the covered walkways. I was able to take the dogs out for walks around the resort and we were able to stay dry.

The rain stopped the next morning around 9:00 and it did not rain on us again until we left Friday morning. So we were able to get out on Wed\Thu and see the area and enjoy the beach.

The staff at Salishan are very friendly and really made us feel welcome. The room was comfortable and having the living area made it enjoyable so we someplace to relax without having to sit on the bed.

Would have been a great couple days to get out and play golf and as I watched the course from our room, the course seemed to be pretty open. Again, going during the off season is great.

I am sure we will be back. It turned out to be a quiet and relaxing anniversary.

Stayed at Salishan Lodge for a weekend. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. The room was clean, I loved the gas fireplace and balcony with rocking chairs (we didn't use them, the weather was stormy) Our view overlooked the golf course, making it quiet and serene. The pool and exercise rooms were really nice. They have a game room w/ couches flat screens and xbox and PS2. Rooms are spread out in different buildings but the walkways are covered. The Suites are beautiful and very lodgy feeling w/ fireplaces in both bedrooms and a wood fireplace in main room. We didn't order room service or eat at any of the resturants(they looked quite spendy). I would love to go back in summer when weather is nice and can get out and explore.(huge grounds)
