“Holds up the McMenamins standards”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

This is the standard experience for a McMenamins brew pub. Very good food and very good beer.
Service very attentive but not intrusive.

Location is nice. It sits on a golf course.

Suprizingly it was not that busy.

The hotel accomodations were nice. The hotel is old but has been refurbished. Food in the Sandtrap restaurant was below par. The Stay and Play package was very ambiguous and ended up costing about twice as much as indicated by the reservation person. The golf course is beautiful and the hotel location is wonderful, one block walk to the beach. Gearhart is a very small town. It does boast an excellent bakery.

Thank you for staying with us at the Gearhart Hotel and taking the time to write a review! I will make sure to share your comments with the management team. Our hotel has been open for just over a year now and the space it occupies in the building was formerly office and storage. Sub par is certainly not what we are going for with the food, I do hope that you were able to speak with a manager on site and they were able to correct things for you. We are always making changes to our program to better meet our guests needs. I will also address the concerns with the stay and play package. The front desk staff needs to understand the packages and be able to quote the correct price. I apologize that this did not happen and we will make the necessary changes. We do hope to see you again soon on the beautiful Oregon Coast either for a drink, to stay or to play a round of golf. Cheers!

A king room w/ a balcony. The view is absolutely gorgeous. The room is very nice with wood covered walls, beautiful! Creates a ... Cabinesque feel... A beautiful place to stay, an awesome golf course. Just beautiful.

Recent weekend stay in a Queen guest room.

There were several issues with out stay:
- the room was very warm (~90 degrees) and had no way to cool it down. Seemed to be the result from the room being located directly above the kitchen cooking area. The staff offered us a fan to put in the window but the kitchen vents were right outside our window. This resulted in smoke and gases from the deep fat fryer venting into our room - very smelly. The hotel smoking area was also right outside our window. Yuck.
- there was a pipe with a water hammer right under the room which consistently banged and rattled all night long.
- Room was advertized with 'complimentary coffee'. Unfortunately it was alway empty. Only one small carafe to supply the entire hotel and it was usually empty.

On the positive side, the staff was friendly. That said they could not do anything to remedy the issues. They did suggest that we could leave and stay somewhere else (although they did not offer to arrange it). Wasnt really an option on a spring break weekend with a pet in the room.

We will not be returning.

Room Tip: Dont get a room above the kitchen or on the South and West side of the hotel. Unfortunately this is...

Went there for 1 night, boyfriend loves golf, he played in the tournament there, while I relaxed. I heard a lot of reviews about the noise, I personally, didn't have that experience. Like any place you'd hear things every now and again, but it wasnt anything terrible, or disturbing. They give you free ear plugs if you really want them ;)
We had an amazing view of the golf course, a great room, with all of the amenities would needed/wanted.
The staff was friendly and helpful. They are pet friendly, which is great, we will be bringing our pooches with us next time (no breed/size restrictions! just let them know in advance)
I personally loved this hotel, wouldnt change a thing about it.

Stopped by just to see it & Wow! Beautiful place! Would love to eat & spend a night there. We did have a bloody mary in the bar & sat out on the awesome deck in the sunshine sheltered from the wind overlooking a beautiful golf course setting! Can't wait to check out other McManamins establishments...I'd even invest in the company if I could!

Great hotel, great location, great room: all around really nice, with one exception - pipe noise. The pipes under our room clanged (not super loudly unless you were trying to sleep) and woke us up a little earlier than I wanted (started around 6am, not terrible by any means). I mentioned it at checkout and the response was "Yeah, a lot of people say that, and no one ever does anything about it." Which is a bit sad, as this would otherwise be a 5 star review. Barring the noise, a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Captain's Room is a bit noisy around 6am from pipes clanging.
