“There are better options in Ft Klamath”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2011

We stayed two nights here in May 2011 in one of the regular (non A Frame) rooms. The carpet in our room was stained and felt dirty. To be fair there was some construction work going on that may have been room refurbishment of another block so hopefully that will change. There is no breakfast and a TV which receives one channel only. There is wifi included but incredibly we were told what we could and could not do with it (no looking at video sites and we must monitor our bandwidth.) I don't think this is acceptable when you are paying quite a lot for a room that has very old decor and facilities (no tub).

Some of our stuff had been rearranged when we got back in a way which made us feel uncomfortable.

As with all critiques, we are grateful to hear from guests about things that need improvement and areas where we excel. This review is no different, and we appreciate the guest's obvious understanding that keeping things up to our normal standards during construction is no easy task. As for carpet and decor...we are an older lodging facility and we are working hard to update and improve our accommodations as quickly as we can while still keeping our room rates competitive.

With respect to tv and breakfast...among our comparable competition, no one has more than one tv channel (if they have tv), and no one offers breakfast. We do, however, offer a variety of complimentary hot beverages in the office each morning.

About our wifi...the options for service in our rural setting are extremely limited and very costly; so we offer what we can. Our wifi is limited, but most people are very happy for the opportunity to check e-mail, surf, skype, etc. We do request that our guests, out of respect for each other, avoid downloading large files, videos, music and software updates so that we will not exceed our daily download limit and everyone can then enjoy access to the internet.

At the Aspen Inn, we do the very best we can with what is available in our area. Most of our guests understand that we do not compare at all to the large motel chains; we are small, independent and very customer oriented. And while most guest reviews reflect great satisfaction and an appreciation of 'a little something more than nothing', we realize we will never be able to please everyone all the time. But we will continue to try!

We had a great time here "in the middle of nowhere" - it felt good not even having a cellphone signal nor satellite or cable TV. Instead we enjoyed sitting by the river behind the house without being disturbed by text messages, getting good advice from Sue and Heidi and making trips to Crater Lake and Klamath Falls.

We're also still talking about the Prime Rib we had at "Melita's" along the main highway only about 20 minutes away.

For us Europeans, this is how we imagine something like, well, not the "Wild West" but almost - rural life in remote North America areas far far away from any big city. Guess it might be diffrent during peak season, so we were lucky to be here in september.

I usually prefer free wireless, as many tv channels as possible, maybe a spa - but you don't really miss ANYTHING of this out here, promise.

My boyfriend and I stayed here overnight before driving up to Crater Lake. The staff here was wonderful! They provided all the info we needed and wanted about Crater Lake and planning our visit for the next morning. They also told us where we could get certain things around town like food and supplies. Our room was a clean and cute motel style room. We walked the property down to the creek and sat on the porch-swing in the courtyard and had glasses of wine. When we stopped by the office to borrow a deck of cards, the staff insisted we take wine glasses from their home instead continuing to use the cheap plastic cups we had. Overall, the Aspen Inn is a lovely, well-kept motel whose staff only add to this place's charm.

We spent two nights there recently in the Wagon House. It was very unique. We are an older couple, older, not OLD, and we traveled with friends. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the unit, the friendliness and availabillity of the staff, and the pool table! Be advised there is NO tv in the Wagon House, but after all with Crater Lake a few miles away who needs tv. It was rainy and froggy while we were there so could not take advantage of the nice fire pit. (I really wanted s'mores!) The first day it was so foggy you could not see the lake, so we went to Klamath Falls for a movie. There are actually a few more places to eat than what it looks like, but no fast food nearby at all. We loved the Aspen Inn and would highly recommend it.

Stayed in one of the A-frames. Very cute and clean. And quirky - for instance, the mirror is to the side of the sink and the shower is the size of a phone booth. Mini-fridge and microwave were welcome. Perfect for family with two kids, since the loft has a pair of single beds (on the other hand the kids won't like the one-channel tv, but if you want tv, why are you way out here?) Staff was knowledgable and helpful about the area, including things you might not think of.
Gas not THAT far away on US97 at the Indian casino.
10 am checkout wasn't a problem for us - get up when the sun does and go DO something. Crater Lake is mighty special at 8 am.

We had a very enjoyable stay of 4 nights at the Aspen Inn while visiting Crater Lake and surroundings. The staff, especially Heidi, were among the friendliest and most helpful people we've ever seen behind the desk of a hotel. The room was spartan, but clean and with a comfy bed. There was only one channel on the telly, but we didn't drive over 1200 miles from Tucson to watch TV. They provide coffee, tea, and hot choco in the morning. They also provide a communal refrigerator for those staying in a room with no kitchenette. There are picnic tables on the lawn, where we ate our DIY breakfast. The strict closing time of 10 pm for arrivals may be inconvenient for some.

Everything would have been fine, even interesting, staying in a room where you could sit in a wooden rocking chair and fan yourself with the room's fly swatter, all while watching the only channel working on TV. However, the receptionist working during the evening of our arrival was incredibly rude, ruining that experience.
The office closes at 10pm, and because of that, I called a few hours before to inform the receptionist that we were trying our best to get there as soon as possible, but it seemed that we will be 15 minutes late. And did her sighing begin! The receptionist finally told me to call back again during the closing time, but not before mentioning a couple of times how unhappy she was with the situation that I created.
At 10pm I called back, told the receptionist that we were still running 15 minutes late. The receptionist sighed some more and finally provided with a simple solution to the inconvenient situation that I created. She did not stay beyond the scheduled closing of the office at all!
I understand the difficulties that were created by coming in after the scheduled closing of the office, but someone working in the motel business should provide at least some lenience, especially if guests can't cancel the room later than 3 days before arriving.
