“Great food, interesting drink selection.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012 via mobile

Food was incredible, in "choices" of food available and the "tasty" selections served to us. Only downside...food came out over 30 minutes instead of all at one time.
We were a table of 9, but they wouldn't seat us, until most of our party had arrived. I sorta understand, but they could have lost all our business with just a quick cell phone call from me-who went early to grab a table.
Fun atmosphere, friendly staff.
All in all-would go back in a heart beat.

“Good food, great drinks. Casual atmosphere.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

The Whiteaker neighborhood has been home to some great restaurants lately and Izakaya Meiji fits right in. Lots of great drinks and a constantly changing menu of great little dishes that are perfect for sharing. Although I'm never exactly sure what to expect when I order something, I have never had anything I didn't like here!

“An Excellent Restaurant With An Eclectic Menu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

To call Meiji's food Japanese-Northwest fusion does not really capture the unusual (even bizarre) variety of foods offered on their menu ,,. or the unusual variety of adult beverages (an extensive selection of beers, sake & bourbon!). During a recent ten-day visit to Eugene, we ate at Meiji's four of those nights & enjoyed all the many dishes we tried. It is located in a transitional neighborhood in which the 70s have definitely not died and its clientele span the full economic and demographic range. It has an outdoor (as well as indoor) seating area for warmer evenings and the decor is informal but appealing. The servers are very knowledgeable, friendly & efficient. And the food is ridiculously underpriced for the quality. I would recommend Meiji's without qualification. One more thing: the Dark & Stormy is highly recommended.

“Most interesting restaurant in Eugene”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

This place does some very interesting things with food and is a very welcomed addition to the more straight-forward grub offered in Eugene. With an exciting menu and finely crafted cocktails this place was a very pleasant surprise that left a positive feeling with me and everyone else who was with me.

I could suggest this place to couples wanting a nice meal in a cool atmosphere with great drinks, to a group of friends meeting up for light eats and heavy drinks or even someone popping in on a whim.

Very exciting, very cool and top quality, a real gem in Eugene's already heavyweight crown of choice for food and drink.

“Great eating-out adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2012

Meiji is a tzakaya bar, which can be said to be a place to drink with Japanese tapas. We found exotic Japanese cuisine in a not at all exotic setting. We chose it because the tables were crowded. The patio furniture was a variety of cast off residential patio stuff. The menu choices all had totally unfamiliar names and unusual ingredients which turn out to be exceptionally tasty. The spinach appetizer came as a tower of spinach coated in a black sesame miso butter sauce…not recognized without help from the very helpful waitress. The menu is elegantly printed on card stock in a booklet format three pages long, plus a separate happy hour menu. The drink menu is like the main menu with many many pages and drink choices, including a page each of sakes and whiskeys. The prices are very low for the quality and creativity of the food. The neighborhood features natural food markets, vegetarian restaurants, a brewery with a food cart for its food offerings and a very smoky bar with a hippy crowd and lots of dogs of course
