“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2011

The Whale Cove Inn is that rarity on the Oregon Coast: luxurious but understated. Calm and delightful, not overstuffed. The rooms (suites really) are enormous -- bedroom, living area, bathroom, deck. Lots of room to spread out and relax. And the views of Whale Cove and the ocean are first class.
Restaurant Beck, which is independent of the Inn but located inside it, is also great. It is a true gourmet experience, not a typical coast-style chowder and grilled seafood place (although those can be wonderful too, of course). This is more for that special occasion or pamper yourselves meal.
My only mild negative is that I thought the breakfast could have been a bit better -- but it was good, and perhaps it just suffered in comparison to the Beck dinner.
Overall, we loved it at Whale Cove Inn, and we can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: The regular suites are all the same as far as we know. The third floor ceilingsmight be higher, tho...

The locations is fabulous. The accomodations are were the absolute best and most luxurious that we have ever experienced. The view on to the cove and ocean from our balcony was alone worth the price of admission. And then to have the whirlpool right there also was beyond belief. Sarah at the front desk made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The rooms and public areas were decorated in fine style. The (included) breakfast was wonderful. We would not hesitate to stay at Whale Cove Inn again.

What an outstanding arrival.....you come around a corner along the cliffs and there it is, the concrete inn guarding the view. Entering through towering metal doors your breath is taken away by the sight before you. We are greeted by the general manager Sarah Jincks as if we are old and dear friends. Weary from a long days drive she whisks us up to our third floor room........or should I say suite. My husband and I look at each other and giggle.......this is beyond our expectations. We are "on top of the world" ! The bay is gleaming beneath us, the gulls gliding above us and the waves crashing beyond us...... we stand on our sun-soaked terrace transfixed by the beauty of the location. It was the final stay of a 3 week tour thru several states. Having stayed at many fine hotels, inns and lodges we both agreed that we had "saved the best for last". So delighted with the accommodation we spent the afternoon lounging on our quiet, private deck. We strolled the grounds at dusk, then star watched as we soaked in our open air bathtub. Cozied up in our thick terry bathrobes we sat in the dark, the wall of windows open allowing us the ever present sound of the water caressing the rocks and caves below.
We crawled into our king bed, the linens crisp and the air fresh.... both of us asleep in minutes. Refreshed from a divine sleep and invigorating rain-shower we enjoyed a simple breakfast prepared freshly that morning before heading on our way. As we drove off, big smiles on our faces, we made a promise to return......altho next time, for a longer stay.

I popped on to write a review about our wonderful trip to the Oregon coast and read the review by the folks from OK. The timing is right and not too many folks visit from OK ...Well we had the misfortune to have this odious couple stay at the Beautiful Whale Cove Inn the same time as us. Nothing, I mean nothing would please them. They were rude and demanding and inconsiderate of anyone who dinned next to them. If I was the inn keeper I would have asked them to leave.
It is obvious that these folks have never stayed at a B&B inn before. One morning the man loaded his plate up with 6 to 8 individual quiches...all the muffins...and most of the pastry. He was a very large man. He complained that the breakfast was not "to order" kept going to the kitchen and demanding different things - upset that the inn did not have a snack machine - you get the picture.
Our stay was great. Fantastic decor and wonderful beds and linens. The food was outstanding. The buffet offered fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade granola and cereals, pastry, fresh baked muffins, quiche and other sweet and savory delights. Lori was the best. She directed us to some out of the way cafes and a great hiking adventure! She was also "grace under pressure" with the nasty folks from OK!
Front Staff was efficient and friendly, although they do not come on until 9am. Lori assisted us with a video return and check out, so all was fine.
All in all, I highly recommend Whale Cove Inn ---unless you prefer motel 6, Denny’s and snake machines!

A beautiful facility that has no chance of making money. That, obviously, is not the owner's desire. It was designed by an interior decorator who knows little about the coast or the needs of a sleeping room in an inn. There are skylights that make the early light a give in our room. The arrangement (setup) and the need to keep the drapes drawn in order to have ventilation and to enjoy the sound of the ocean, exacerbate the light problem. The breakfast is, at best, minimal. Out of 4 days, staffing was inadequate for breakfast. One day, the guests from a sister property were added to the breakfast at the Whale Cove. The fixtues in the bath are not appropriate for a public facility. For instance, there is no lever to lower or raise the sink stopper; it is necessary to reach into the dirty water to push the stopper to get it to raise and drain. The staff, such that is is (only one person at ay time), was barely cordial.

Every detail has been thought out, down to binoculars in the room for whale watching. I have nothing but praise for the room, and the staff. Luxury has a price, but here it is worth it.

Loved this lodge. Huge rooms with gorgeous views of Deoe Bay. Best shower in N America. Only sorry that their excellent restaurant was not open yet (closed until May 15) but had delicious dinner at Bay House instead. Would come back again in a heartbeat.
