“A Budget Traveler's Delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2011

Wow, what a delightful surprise this place was! We travel up and down the Interstate several times a year and have somehow missed this place over the years. This past Thurs. night we had a lovely stay at Village Green Resort. We had a Deluxe room that was very cozy with a fireplace and patio outside of our room which looked out into the gardens and grounds. Our room was only $109 which is a fantastic price for everything you get while staying here. The gardens are absolutely lovely and we enjoyed walking through them in the evening and in the morning before our depature.

We had dinner at the resort which was wonderful. Cozy and charming ambiance and very attentive, friendly service. Our corkage fee was waived which was very nice of our server to do. We enjoyed two entrees, I had the Prime Rib which was delicious and a salad buffet is included with your dinner. The salad bar was full of fresh veggies and yummy salad dressings. For dessert we shared a Creme Brulee which was so surprisingly good that we ordered another one. Dinner for two was under $50 with tax and tip. We were also given a coupon for 20% off of our meal. Lots of perks here!

The only complaint we had about our stay was that the beds were not that comfortable. A bit too firm and the mattresses were a little too springy. After dinner we enjoyed time in the lobby since there is no wi fi yet in the rooms. There is a great lounge at Village Green and we could hear the music and people doing kareoke which was fun. Breakfast the next morning was great! A variety of juices, freshly baked waffles, yogurt, cereals, etc. We dined in the same room where dinner was served.

After breakfast we changed into our swimsuits and had a very nice soak in their great hot tub. The pool is very pretty but it was a bit too cold for swimming. Lounge chairs were padded and there is lush greenery and pretty potted plants in the pool area. I loved the banana plants that are are around the grounds. Everything looked very well maintained and cared for. This property truly is an oasis where you can rest and relax and is definitely one not to miss when traveling. The fact that is very affordable is awesome and they offer so many perks once you check in here.

The property is also close to golf courses, covered bridges and wineries if you have the time to explore the area. Chateau Lorane is close by and Eugene is about 30 minutes away. We will definitely be returning to Village Green Resort! :)

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that some of the rooms seem to be closed. Overall the resort was better than I had hoped. The gardens were so beautiful and every gardener should take the time to see it. The service was very friendly and helpful. For a Tuesday night it was great to have some live Jazz with pre dinner coctails. Dinner was quite nice and we really enjoyed ourselves! I will be back and can't wait to see the gardens in the Springtime! Thank You Village Green for making our stay really nice

Room Tip: Having the Deluxe room with the small outside patio and working gas fireplace was a real bonus!

We exited Highway I-5 in Cottage Grove to find a place to stay for the night. No reservations. Turned left (northbound exit) by mistake and walked into the Village Inn. What a great welcome and great surprise! The kids were absolutely delighted. We missed touring the recommended gardens because we had to leave in the morning, but what we saw of the grounds was magnificent. Lots of elbow room. Casual environment. A great and highly respected local family establishment.

Got this weekend package with a Groupon-overall a very good value. When we booked, the remodeled units were already taken, so we were placed in the Presidential Suite. Apparently, Richard Nixon stayed there in 1969 and although some of the room had been updated, most was straight out of the 60's. The bathroom was in that lovely 60's pink! Definitely a mixed retro vibe.
It was a suite, so had a nice living area separate from the bedroom and a nice little patio.
The gardens were very large and well-kept, however they are RIGHT next to the freeway. They were also roped off on Sunday because there was a car show on the grounds.
We had a complimentary meal that was included in the Groupon at their restaurant, and it was quite good, although service was a bit slow at times.
Overall, it was a nice stay and I would recommend it if you can get a good discount.

We stayed here mainly to see the car show that was being held on the Village Green Resort grounds, as well as to tour the "Covered Bridge Capital of Oregon". We had a coupon through Living Social so dinner was included. This place isn't terrible, but there are so many disappointing things about it. The bed was probably the worst we've ever slept on (super hard). The room was dark and dated and our outside patio area as very overgrown, dark and dingy. We walked around the entire place; the probably once beautiful gardens are in very poor shape. The gardens are also right next to the freeway so no peace and quiet there, unfortunately.

There looks to be many uninhabitable rooms in a few of the buildings furthest away from the lobby entrance, although we did see cars parked outside some of the rooms, under carports that were rotting and sagging. The roofs on these buildings were questionable; the siding and landscaping in need of major work. One of the buildings was gutted down to the plumbing so maybe the place is being fixed up a building at a time??? Would have helped if management enlightened us ahead of time if this was the case so that we understood that it's a work in progress. Otherwise, we think the worst (thus this review).

There was an outdoor event being held the night we stayed - which was in the center common area. Wish management would have told us about that too. You basically had to stay up until the event ended (around 11 pm) because you could hear the music, the announcer (and which numbers won the raffle drawings) etc.

The restaurant was good, except for the fact that our dinner was "valued" at a far higher price than the prices listed on the menu (and we didn't have a bottle of wine). Not sure how they came up with that. So we figured out what the correct value should have been, and tipped based upon the real number.

On a good note...the chocolate covered strawberries (included in our package) were probably the best we've ever had! Also, it was a very hot weekend; the AC worked great.

In conclusion, we were hoping for a "resort" atmosphere. This place fell very short. We would not stay here again, even with a coupon. It was not a "resort" and it was not relaxing. Sorry!

...and I'm not sure why! We have stayed there for close to 15 years off and on every year in August. What we like: Larger rooms, garden areas, pool area. A few years ago they switched to a hot breakfast included in room. This year when I called to make the reservation and found the rates were up quite a bit, I said to the front desk person, "We like your breakfast so we we'll take it". Nothing was said about changing the breakfast! Our first morning there we found they no longer have a hot breakfast, but just a little more than continental. All the usual fare, cereal, toast, juice and coffee is there plus waffles and hardboiled eggs. Not what we expected however. We stayed in the 600 block of rooms, this part of the hotel is literally falling apart. We don't mind dated fixtures, etc. but sagging carport roofs, peeling paint EVERYWHERE. Upon entering the room we sat on the beds. Hard as a rock. I called the office and asked if I could upgrade or be moved to another room with better beds.I seriously do not remember the beds being like this last time we stayed there. I mean, we DO expect to SLEEP at a motel! They offered another room in another wing, but the location was not desirable and the room and beds were the exact same.No upgrade to "deluxe" rooms was available. Back to the other room we go. Our daughter found trash dumped behind the little table on the floor, so the housekeeping wasn't very thorough but this was just overlooked, and so we overlooked it as well. We hardly slept at all, we decided to stick it out another night as we wanted to enjoy the pool the next night. However, when we went to the pool and hot tub area it was full of people who had been celebrating a little too much. Our 18 yr old daughter was with us she went back to the room and so did we. Our advice is to hire a painter and begin fixing the peeling paint. We look at the amount of work in the gardens, which are lovely, but basic things like toilets which do not flush and/or leak, sinks which do not drain (stopper was stuck) need to have some attention! And please replace those beds! Village Green is our favorite place to stay but each year it gets worse. I have many stories from over the years about each stay, but we'll just stick with this one! I will say, however, the staff is VERY friendly and they TRY to accommocate you in everyway. And for this we are very thankful! See you next year....,maybe!

If you're just looking to get away and relax, this could be a good choice. Pet friendly, fabulous grounds (big area, beautiful gardens, unique flowers, etc.) nice pool, pretty good food, nice staff, a nice lounge and a good although gently-dated room. Only thing that could've made the grounds better for our purposes was if it wasn't next to the freeway. We got a Travelzoo voucher and traded the deluxe room for a pet friendly suite, and just swam at nearby lakes, found and trails and hiked, walked the grounds, sat by the pool, checked out the town, and it was a great getaway for us and our pup. Everyone was friendly, we were happy. Our room was 70's in construction but antique-ey with modern amenities, pretty clean, and spacious and comfortable. Great for the dog, too. If you're looking for a laid back weekender and like the outdoors, i wiould suggest it.

Room Tip: We were in the 700 building
