I enjoyed eating local fish and chips at the Fishermen's Seafood Market during recent visit to the Coos Bay area. The restaurant is very small (three of four table) building floating on the bay docks near the visitor information center in downtown Coos Bay. It is not easily seen from Hwy 101, but look for the enclosed tug boat in bay view area near the VIC. I had the fish and local butter clams these the among the best fish and chips on the South Coast. The butter clams, in particular, are large and have great texture and flavor. The lunch was was fairly priced at about about $10 for a 1/2 and 1/2 combo with fries, slaw and a drink. Given the quality and freshness, it was well worth it. If the tables in the restaurant are full -- or even if they are not -- one can take the meal up to the enclosed bay viewing area and eat in comfort. The FSM is very much worth looking for and stopping.
