“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

The place is clean and well located to shopping centers and restaurants. The guys at the front desk were really nice and helpful. I heard they have a great breakfast, but did not have time for that, but a pleasant stay here.

Dear Mataturider

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and hope next time you will be able to enjoy some Bob's Red Mill oatmeal or one of Rusty's awesome omelettes before you head out!

Thank you for the post!

We found the Monarch by accident, we thought we had called The Residentce Inn. Long story short, we were disappointed at first, but after checking in and going to our room we were very pleasantly surprised by the inside of the hotel and the rooms. We have stayed at the Monarch at least 12 nights in the last two years, and plan on staying there for every future trip to Portland! Don't let the outside of the hotel chase you away, the rooms are very clean, plush and comfortable.
The staff are friendly and helpful. Great location close to Clackamas Mall and lots of restaurant choices.

Room Tip: Room on West side, put's you further from I-205.

Our Bowling League has chosen the Monarch for our annual bowling banquet on many occasions. The facility is perfect for our group of around 60 people although they can accomodate far more. As the coordinator of the banquet I found they were very easy to deal with and accommodating to special requests. The excellant service from the staff was seamless. The excellant food was prepared on time. Also the banquet room was beautifully set up and organized. Very classy. I highly recommend the Monarch for your banquet.

Stayed here for 2 days, the hotel manager was very nice, gave us a great AAA rate for a 2 queen bed room which was very nice and upgraded. Very comfortable beds, clean room, and also had a resturant and bar inside. Would recommend is place to anyone. Also a great location, right across the street from clackamas town center and only about 15 mins from downtown.

I stayed here 5 nights for both work and pleasure.

Pros: location is great as I-205 is only blocks away. Used this to get everywhere from downtown, connecting towards the Oregon coast, and getting to I-84 to the Columbia River Gorge. The room was clean and always well tended too daily.

Cons: the place is old and could use some updating. The rooms are fine and my bathroom sink area was new. The shower head is retro old and cannot be adjusted. You could also tell the floor was warping. The main issue with the room was the noise. I could hear convo in the room next to me and every time I walked the floor made noise and every time the person above me walked the ceiling squeaked.

upon arrival all 3 vending machines were out of water. The front desk person told me to go to the lounge. I opted to go to target instead and get my own supply.

I never ate at the restaurant but had some wine at the lounge. It's retro fabulous, I would not bother unless you need to stay put.

Many places within a couple of blocks like Target, Kohls, Red Robin, Panera, Starbucks, Macaroni Grill, and more.

Honestly, the location was great for accessibility but I would pay an extra $25 to stay at another hotel that is a bit more updated.

Thank you for sharing your comments regarding your recent stay at the Monarch. We are glad you found our location convenient and ideal for your needs. We are celebrating our 28th birthday this June, so the Lounge may seem a bit retro (some things you just have to keep close to original) but we did update our main lobby and business center in January. We also recently switched vending companies and have found the new purveyor much more responsive in replacing depleted products. Thank you again for your stay. We hope you will try us again in the future!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for three nights in a suite. We had a special rate because we were with a group event. The suite layout was very nice. Separate bedroom with a queen bed, living/ dining area and bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. The hotel seems to be older, but was very clean.

We did have a couple of problems while staying here.
First we noticed the toliet was loose and tilted each time you sat on it. We went to the front desk and told them. They did send someone right away and it did get fixed, but at first we didn't know if they were going to have us switch rooms or fix it, so we didn't unpack and left while they worked on it.
Late that evening my husband went to take a jacuzzi bath, and the jacuzzindidn't work. Again I called and again they sent someone up and it got fixed, but it was a huge inconvenience.

I was surprised that the management did not follow up with a call to make sure we were happy or to make sure there were no other problems. I was also a bit surprised that they did not offer to lower our room rate ( we did already have a group rate) or offer a complementary breakfast or something (they have a restaurant in house).

The location of the hotel was good and the staff were great. We may consider staying again if the rate is right and we were with a group. We were just a bit disappointed how management didn't seem to realize that although problems were fixed it was still an inconvenience (x2) for us.

I'm a flight attendant and stay at many hotels throughout the world and country. This hotel has to be the worst when it comes to noise. You hear EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING. From your neighbors taking showers, watching TV, flushing toilets and even blowing their own nose. If you need a hotel room to be quiet, don't choose the MONARCH.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent experience at the Monarch. There is nothing more important to us than giving each and every one of our guests the highest level of accommodation. Should you be our guest in the future, and the noise issues reoccur, please know that we will make every effort to locate a more quiet room for you. If you have the opportunity, please e-mail me directly at tthompson@monarchhotel.cc regarding the poor service and cleanliness ratings so I may investigate and address with the appropriate departments.
