My wife and I and two friends just returned from a trip to Oregon with included 3 days at the Lobenhaus Bed & Breakfast in Carlton, Oregon. It is centrally located in the wine country west of Portland, not too far but far enough off the beaten path. We had lovely rooms, each very roomy and with their own bathrooms and A/C. We were in the Birch room and our friend were in the ELM room, which both had windows on the east side to let in the morning sun, and give a nice view of their 2-level water feature and a small vineyard. Both had easy, direct access to the outside and to the deck, which overlooked the stream and the larger vineyard. The deck was a nice place to relax and enjoy our morning coffee and tea, and our wine in the afternoon and evening. Shari and Joe Lobenstein are the proprietors, and they were very nice, friendly, and accomodating. The breakfasts were tasty, and there was always fresh fruit to be had along with chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon. The coffee and tea were always available before breakfast was served at 9am in the spacious main room. There were also two lovely common rooms, one on each floor, if you just wanted to relax indoors. Shari was great with directions, first giving us a scenic route to get to the coast, and later giving us a route back to the Portland airport that avoided almost all the congestion during the morning commute. We hope to return to the Lobenhaus sometime soon.
