“Great place if you love ants!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

On check in our place had been untouched by maid service since last renter. They said housekeeper had the flu...I let it slide. Things happen right?

But the ant infestation was more than we could take. Our 4 night stay changed to 3 nights with very little sleep that third night.

I called to tell them of the problem and told them we were checking out. They said they'd credit back the night we did not stay, but would not credit back the night we did not sleep.

The place is super cute - the ants are not!

Terrible rental experience.

By the way - no credit back to my account yet.

We stayedtas #4 & #5 over Christmas, and were disappointed. We have stayed here before and had a pretty good time, but lots went wrong during our recent stay. There is no mention of an ant issue anywhere when booking, but it is enough of a problem that they have laminated information sheets and ant kill spray in each cabin. We were VERY careful with food during our stay, but found them all over EVERYTHING. Kitchen, living area, on the bed, all over toothbrushes in the morning...big problem. Had to hunt down a vacuum from the housekeeper to try to clean up some of the dead ones we killed (we did lots of cleaning, but still had to pay the big cleaning fee).

Our last two days we were without hot water as well, as the water heater seemed to be broken. December on the coast is too wet and cold to be without hot water! Email and survey input on this were ignored--we were never conacted or responded to. Great location but we will have to find another place in the future. :(

My husband and I stayed in a Hidden Villa Cottage the 2nd weekend in November with our Weimaraner. The location is perfect; 3 minute walk to the beach and centrally located between the two main 'areas' (shopping, restaurants) of Cannon Beach. Our cottage was perfect for the three of us. The cottage was clean and heated up fast (it was in the 30's and 40's during our visit). The other renters were nice and the surrounding homes were pleasant as well.
One recommendation: bring your own pillows/sheets (ours did not feel very clean). One con: There were long black hairs on some towels/pillow (probably from whomever does the cleaning or fixing up cabins before new arrivals).
Also, they provided food/water bowls for our dog which was nice. But the poop bag holder (provided) was out of bags.

This was our sixth time staying at the cottages, and we still love coming here. We had the Sunflower cottage this year. I have to agree with other reviewers--the grounds need some help. I'm assuming the mounds of dirt were from moles. Flowerbeds/grass need weeding. Maybe some new lawn furniture? Our cottage had a daybed instead of a couch. Very comfy for reading/watching TV, as opposed to the couch we had last year in another cottage. Everything was clean, and the bed was comfortable, also. Cute sunflower decor throughout. Two hundred fifty a night on the weekend is a bit steep, but, they don't have a three to five night minimum like some of the other vacation rentals do. My sister's cabin is about four blocks north of here, so we walk up and down the back street to her place. The only time we drive is when we go to Seaside, or further down the coast. We brought our dogs, but forgot a bowl and bags, which we found in a basket in the corner in the kitchen. We usually come for Fourth of July weekend, when it's so crowded. This year waited two weeks, and the crowds weren't so bad. Still lots of traffic, but we were on foot most of the time, so didn't care. Dogs loved running leash-free on the beach. Wi-Fi worked perfectly. Sleeps four? Maybe, but it would be pretty cozy. The bathroom is miniscule, but is adequate, as long as you don't try to share. The bakery a block south had a most delicious bacon cheddar bagel. Along with a white chocolate hazelnut mocha, made for a great breakfast.
We'll be coming back next year!

My husband and I stayed in the Nautical cottage for a week. The cottage was clean and we did not have an ant problem (thank goodness). The grounds, on arrival, were very neglected, but during our stay the new groundskeeper was quite busy mowing the grass, killing the weeds, cleaning out the pond, etc. So, progress is being made and this property has so much potential!
Back to the cottage....they are tiny and give a new meaning to the word "cozy". Two adults tops. There are no clothes closets but there was a hook rack (4 hooks) on the wall in the bedroom. It would be helpful to have one by the front door also.
There is no place to really put a suitcase so we improvised using one of the kitchen chairs next to the bed and moved the side table to the living room area. The "grill" was rusted out so I went to Mariners Market in town and purchased some throw away grills to use instead. The fireplace remote did not work so we manually turned the fireplace on and off in the morning to take the chill out. There is a small chest of drawers in the living area which has extra sheets and towels in case of two extra guests that might need the pullout sofa bed. I also found a hair dryer in the top drawer. The kitchen is equipped with a set of dishes (for 4), pots/pans, a well used toaster, and a coffee maker. There is a two burner cooktop, a microwave and a refrigerator. Be sure to bring your own groceries, seasonings, saran/foil, ziplock, etc. Wi-fi was virtually non-existent but after a phone call to management, someone was out the next day and added an additional router so that took care of the problem. Parking is tight, one space per car in front with two of those cars having to park next to the side cottages. Hence, our view was parked cars.
I would say, all in all, the location was good ( a five minute walk down the street to the beach),
and in the quiet end of town. We love CB but I think we might try a different place that has a bit more space the next time.

Your enjoyment of the cottage will relate inversely with the price of the stay, do not stay here if you are paying the same price that you would be paying at one of the bigger inns or hotels in Cannon Beach. We had a rate of $75 a night (2 week stay, shoulder season), which means that we could overlook many of the issues with the property. The cottages are small, less than 400 sq ft, have no storage for personal items and are outfitted for two adults to stay for a couple of nights (four adultsin one of those condos, as it says on the site that they accommodate would be absolute insanity). The interior of the cottages look exactly as the pictures show on the Vacasa site, so chose a decor that suits you. The complex is very dog friendly, and if you do not like dogs, I would not recommend the property as there were constantly dogs running around the place. The grounds and exterior of the cottages are in disrepair/neglected in many places (siding missing or falling off,) furniture in the cottages show dog induced damage, carpets are stained. There are 6 cottages but parking is really only adequate for 5 vehicles, we allowed two different couples to "park us in" as other guests couldn't figure out how to reasonably park their vehicles to accommodate other guests. There are ants in the cottages, not just in the kitchen, as it says in the information sheet (be prepared to find ants everywhere and in everything). We stayed 15 nights and I had to purchase additional blankets, towels, brooms, and we used disposable cups etc., as the unit really is only outfitted for two adults for a two night stay (we were a group of three). There is no laundry on site, so be prepared to drive to Seaside. There is no manager on site, (even though there is a sign on Hemlock that points to an "office"), the “office” is where the extra items for this another properties are stored, so be prepared to deal with any issues that arise on your own. There is an amazing housekeeper, Sydney, who is on site to clean when guests are checking out, she is extremely helpful and will try and assist if she can. Big thanks to Sydney!

Room Tip: Cottages 1 and 6 will have cars parked on two sides of the cottage

Husband, springers, and I spent labor Day weekend at Hidden Villa. We'd stayed there twice before Linda moved out, and it's a different place now that the place is handled by a management company somewhere out of town, which were very challenging to contact after we forgot the key combination left in an e-mail sent way back when the reservation was made. if it hadn't been for another guest knowing how to get ahold of someone, we would have had to drive home. The gardens hadn't been maintained--There were dying potted geraniums on every doorstep. The cottages now go for about $250. a night in summer--up from $90. or so, and there hasn't been any maintenance done on the interiors. Our fireplace pilot was hot, and could not be turned off.

The kitchen was nice, and the bed comfortable, with a tricky bedside lighting system.

We used to love Hidden Villa, but for the prices they're asking, it'd be cheaper to stay at the Surfsand, and have a bathtub and ocean view--sans kitchen.

Room Tip: one that's not facing the parked cars
