“Wright's was the RIGHT choice!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2009

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wright's Campground in Cannon Beach! The sites were woodsy and green with fern and were also very well groomed upon arrival. The staff was also very friendly. I loved that the bathrooms and showers were always clean and there were laundry facilities and a utility sink for cleaning dishes right in the rear of the building. The campsites were of all different sizes and some were more private than others. Site 18 is large and the most private as it's located at the end of the culdesac. We reserved sites 17 and 18 and it worked out great for our families. I wouldn't recommend the sites near the entrance.

The campground is just a short walk to the beach and to the many shops along the main drag. Enjoy!

At first glance, this sounded like camping paradise: family-owned, close to a drop-dead gorgeous beach, highly recommended by friends. We arrived on a Thursday evening, planning to stay for three nights with several friends; we had booked five separate sites to not exceed the 6-person per site limit. Our site was the next to last at the back of the campground.
We very much appreciated the well-kept sites, spotless bathrooms (though dividers you can see over are a bit odd, as are shared showers), and the laundry sink for doing dishes. Beautiful surroundings and a short, pleasant walk to the beach add to the appeal. Plenty of cute signs reminding folks of the rules (keeping fires in rings, washing off beach sand, recycling, etc.) create the sense that this is a family place and reminds you to to be on your best behavior.
We had no issues until the next night: At 1 a.m., we were woken by the sound on metal crunching on metal and lights flashing into our tent. It was clear that someone was arriving very late, but we weren't the only ones roused from a deep sleep to wonder if it was our fender that had been bent (it wasn't). After half an hour of listening to them backing a trailer into place, with commensurate yelling and headlights and flashlight light show on our tent wall--into the already full spot next to us, they proceeded to noisily light a fire and open a couple of beers to shoot the breeze. At this point, we joined the parade of fellow campers in asking them to please finish up quietly so we could get some sleep.
When we emerged from our tent the next morning, we counted at least ten people in the site next to us: the limit is six. Two other parties had arrived during the same night: no one had heard them come in. Police, summoned by someone else, arrived and talked to the folks in the overfilled site: noted that there were too many of them (police counted twelve), and left. The owner showed up, surprised that someone had called the police, since it wasn't her.
We took this the opportunity to talk to the owner to convey our concerns and to make sure that she was going to ask the excess campers to leave. She told us that if we were unhappy with the number of of people in the site next to us, we could leave: as long as we were out in two hours, she wouldn't charge us. Needless to say, we were flabbergasted: she made it amply clear that she did not intend to enforce either the six-person limit or quiet hours, stating that it was bad for business. What floors us is that she made these statements in front of a long-time repeat customer, who was equally appalled. Apparently, she thinks it more important to not mess with rule-breakers, preferring to alienate repeat business.
The bottom line: a beautiful, clean campground, but you risk being chased out by hooligans and cannot expect support from management.

I really enjoyed my stay at Wright's for Camping. For a college student, it is a good way to spend a vacation in Cannon Beach. The cost is inexpensive and worth all the money. The campground is just a 7 min walk to the beach and about 10 min to the main downtown (we walked everywhere, we only drove to surrounding beaches we wanted to visit outside of Cannon Beach).
I tent camp so Wrights for Camping was perfect for this. It has a bathroom, laundry room and even a place to wash your dishes (I found this very handy).
During August, the fog rolled in in the morning hours but in the afternoon it was sunny and nice. Always had to wear a sweatshirt on the beach but it was still beautiful.
My only minor negative point would be that in some camp sites the trees dividing sites are minimal so you definitely see your nieghbors. Some of the sites towards the North end of the campsite are more enclosed so if you like privacy, I would suggest those spots. They are all good and worth the money but if you really want to plan, I would try to get those.
I enjoyed my time and hope to come back another year.

Best camping spot that our family has enjoyed for many years (15+), we look forward to going each year; love the quaint location nestled under a canopy of tall evergreens. Not far from town and an easy to get to location just off highway 101. Appreciate the owners, children and their grandchildren for keeping this location available for our family and others all these years. You're the best team, grandpa Wright is in Heaven and I am sure is very pleased in leaving his dream in your hands to share with others passing through Canon Beach. Gail, Ralph and family we appreciate you so much-God Bless you and all who come to rest under the evergreen heaven at Wright's for Camping! The Ljunghammar's

2004 was our 2nd year staying at Wright's. At that time we made reservations for the next year--we love it there that much. With 2 small kids and a dog, the setting and the location's proximity to the beach are ideal. (Plus we like the racoons!)

It's also one of the few campsites I've been to where the campers seem to be actually considerate of one another!

We have camped at Wright's several times now, and always can look forward to a good nights sleep and a deep wood atmosphere.Peaceful, clean and quiet and surrounded by a gem of forest, this is old-fashioned camping at it's best.On site owners insure everything is taken care of and although the facility is not fancy, everything is spotlessly clean.Just a short walk to the famous Cannon Beach-this is really a sweet spot in a beautiful setting! All this and very reasonable rates-I hope this stays just the way it is!
