“Won't stay here again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2011

This was our fourth trip to The Waves at Cannon Beach and it was so disappointing. The room was so dated, the clock radio didn't work so we had to remind ourselves to add 2 hours to know what time it was, in room coffee wasn't provided and all housekeeping did
was bring new towels and make the bed. They didn't run the dishwasher, didn't wipe down the surfaces or my biggest peeve, they didn't vacuum. When you stay at the beach, sand inevitably gets tracked in. It sounds petty, but doing your own vacuuming on vacation sucks. This motel isn't inexpensive, so aside from the phenomenal location, I am not sure what we were paying for. Also, online pictures didn't remotely resemble our room. We were in Southwind this trip -- La Colina on prior trips was very nice.

I did a lot of research and picked Waves, and we were very pleased with our stay. The hotel room had a great ocean view, and was excellent value for the price. Clean and quiet, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. We didn't stay in the row of rooms that border the beach, so our price was likely better, but still looked out to the ocean and the creek. Half a block to the beach or to town, it's a great central location to use as a base to walk around. Now if only Mother Nature had done a little better with the weather....

The Flagship unit we stayed in affords a beautiful view of Cannon Beach, the Tillamook Lighthouse, and several needles at Ecola State Park. Restaurants and shops are right down the street. The room was clean and had a small refrigerator and microwave that we used for breakfast each morning. Two windows facing the ocean opened, letting in fresh ocean air and a nice breeze during the day.

During four of the five nights, smokey air blew into our room due to the several bon fires on the beach. This was problematic as I have asthma and the rooms are not air conditioned. Thus, once fires were lit, we had to close the windows and the room became quite warm and stuffy. This was a great disappointment as we had booked our vacation along the Oregon coast to get a break from smokey air from fires burning in our home state. Overall we enjoyed our time here, but likely won't be coming back unless fires are banned on Cannon Beach.

We have been going to The Waves nearly every year for 30 years and it just keeps getting better. It's not fancy or pretentious -- just quality and comfortable (more than comfortable - it's lovely) and just about the best location possible. Right on the beach and a block from downtown. You have to go south of town to even come close in quality, but when you could stay right in town, why would you? The beach is quieter and less crowded than it is down by Haystack Rock, which makes for a very peaceful stay. Can't beat it.

I wish it were as affordable as it was 20 years ago, but other than that it's perfect! We will return often.

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are best.

Nice room and view of ocean. Convenient to restaurants and shops.
For the price would really appreciate some soft fluffy robes though and nicer toiletries.
Seagulls favorite gathering place in the stream that runs to the ocean at the north of units so expect a loud serenade from 3-5:30am.

Room Tip: Ask for room toward south end of unit.

We had a lovely "unobstructed view" of the beach and ocean - and had a seagull welcoming us on our private deck. The gas fireplace in the room was perfect in our chilly mornings and cozy evenings. Room was a nice size and had a very functional kitchenette. We have been to Cannon Beach many times - always different places. Waves will likely become our regular spot - the view, the convenience, and the comfort.

We stayed at the Waves Flagship building for our Anniversary on the recommendations of friends, and were very happy with the decision. The room was beautifully appointed, clean, and comfortable. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and really enjoyed the convenience of the kitchenette. We had stayed at Cannon Beach before, and found the Waves to be the most convenient to town and the room was large and light. The room rates were very good, and only a couple of drawbacks. The phone in the room did not work, but was repaired in a timely manner by the staff, and alternative phone service was offered during the outage. The bed was a little firmer than we were used to, but comfortable. Housekeeping does not wash the dishes unless specifically requested, which was a small drawback for vacation living, but next time we will request this when we check in. Overall everything was wonderful......we will definitely return.
