“A nice surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

We stayed at a near by cabin and passed by this restaurant many times. Our last night in the area we decided to dine here. We had expected a cafe/burger type restaurant and walked into a very nice more fine dining restaurant. We were there off season for the area, and so did not need reservations, nor did we have to wait to be seated.
My husband had a salmon special and I had the seafood fettuccine. Both were excellent. Our server was a very pleasant young lady who happened to be the sister of the head chef. We met him on our way out. Could not have been nicer.
Loved the fresh bread served with a kind of dry spice and olive oil. Our only regret is that we did not have room to try any of their desserts.

“Surprising little gem in the woods”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

Okay, technically, we weren't actually surprised because we'd read about it before ending up there. But it is surprising that such a place like this could exist in as sleepy a place as Camp Sherman. We had several dinners in a row here and were pleased about all of them. The staff is very nice and hard-working, the room is lodge-y comfortable, and the food is excellent, for the location. If it were in a big city, the Kokanee would still be a popular restaurant, but it wouldn't be heralded as the best one around. For Camp Sherman and environs, however, it's the Tour d'Argent.

“amazingly good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

tucked almost in the middle of nowhere, or downtown camp sherman, the kokanee cafe has long been a little gem tucked deep in the forest. We have eaten here several times over the years. Our last trip was nothing short of amazing. We arrived just before our reservation time and quickly seated. Fresh baked bread, accompanied by a good virgin olive oil and a house mixture of crushed, dried spices and herbs were promptly brought to the table. The food was excellent, and detail of presentation was noteworthy. Our server was friendly, very competent, and also knowledgeable about the wine list. She steered us to a very small winery with an outstanding Willamette Pinot Noir. As we had made a reservation for a later sitting, we wound up being the last table to finish our meal. Never were we felt rushed or hurried to leave, lingering over our wine and dessert. The Kokanee is one of my very favorite spots, not just for the fine dining experience in the woods, but as much for its proximity to one of the most scenic rivers in the world, the Metolius. I can hardly wait to get back!

“Hard to rate - One meal was 5 star and one was 2”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We ate at this restaurant twice while staying at House on Metolius, just down the road. There aren't many places to eat around Camp Sherman. Sisters is a half hour, or so, drive away. The first night was amazing. I had trout dusted with hazelnuts and served on risotto in a raspberry sauce. My husband had salmon served with a cream sauce, mushrooms and quinoa. We shared house salad with a coconut milk dressing. The dessert was amazing - a sundae of vanilla ice cream, berries and chocolate ganache. All of it was amazing considering that it is so out in the middle of nowhere - just vacation cabins and campgrounds in the neighborhood (well and an amazing 7 room lodge - see separate review). It was so good we went back the next night. My husband sent a dish back to the kitchen (Boar ravioli) for the first time in his life. I had a tough steak and undercooked Yukon potatoes. What happened in between? If we had what we had the second night, on the first night, we would never have darkened the door again. It's a very laid back casual room. The service from our server (Mark both nights) was very good.

“Special Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

The Kokanee is our go to place to enjoy a wonderful meal. Service is outstanding and the waiters really know the menu, wine and liquor. We enjoy the appetizers specially the Penn Cove Mussels.
Great family restaurant and good children's menu. I can honestly say we have never had a bad meal in our years of eating at the Kokanee. Location doesn't hurt either, Camp Sherman and the Metolious are beautiful. Nice to take a walk after our delicious meal. Great desserts to top it off too.
