“Yes, a strip mall....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2011

This little place is in a strip mall. You would never guess it was there and have probably passed by it several times wihtout knowing it was even there. We have managed to just walk in and get a table. Since it's just 2 of us that makes it easy and we usually go fairly early. My husbands only complaint is it being in this wierd little stip mall and the mini blinds on the windows. There's not too many table in there so if you have a group of 5 or more you need to give them a call. The atmousphere is pleasant, it's not loud and echoey like some places can be. The food and service is great. the wine list is reasonably priced and has a nice selection. We have been 3 times with in the last few weeks, lets face it consistency is key for a restaurant, and they were. Bread is warm and moist on the inside with a nice crisp to the outer shell, cold watermelon soup with pickled onions and feta cheese (very refreshing and summery), the prawn appetizer was delicious,if you added a salad to that it could be your entre. The pork loin was full of flavor and moist. As far as were concerned Jackalope Grill is batting a thousand.

“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

This website and several others list Jackalope as "family fare" or "family friendly." That's not wrong, but it's a different kind of family friendly. We have a toddler and a newborn, so even though they're generally well-behaved, we try not to go places we'll be too out of place or disruptive if things go awry. We checked the reviews and called and were told they have a children's menu. So we show up... to by all appearances a fine dining restaurant, with nice lighting and one small dining room where any misbehavior would be terribly conspicuous. Gulp. But they seated us in a corner booth, refrained from sitting other people next to us when they didn't have to (they weren't full that weeknight), and our waitress was exceedingly friendly and super nice to the kids (who were, in the end, fine). The buttered pasta they served my son was homemade and so good I ate half of it. Oh, and our food - fantastic. I had steak frites and stuffed mushrooms, and they were great. A lot of restaurants are "family friendly" because chaos is the norm. This place earns the label by taking the kids in stride and making us feel welcome with the little touches.

“Excellent food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2011

Loved the food! Loved the service! The location isn't that great but once you are inside the atmosphere is somewhat better. The menu is limited but what they do they do great!

“Mediocre fare, tired and chilly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2011

We had high expectations from some of the reviews but were disappointed. The mini-mall location was not aided by the dated interior. We were seated in a corner bounded by windows on both sides that were quite drafty to the extent that I had to wear my coat during the meal. Since Bend can get quite chilly in winter this was inexcusable. Our lamb was not cooked properly (almost raw in places) and was rather bland. The creme brulee was soupy and the sugar crust burnt. Service was somewhat slow, although pleasant. The place was practically empty on a Saturday night, which should have been our first clue. There are far better places to eat in Bend.

“By far the best high end cuisine in Bend, perhaps in Oregon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2011

We have dined at Jackalope at least half a dozen times in the past few years. The food is outstanding, meat centered with a continental influence. Service is impeccable, polite, but not intrusive. The Southeast side strip mall location may be offputting to some, but once you're inside, the food is worth the trip. There are but a few high end restaurants in Bend: Zydeco, Blacksmith, Pine Tavern. Jackalope tops them all.
