Look. I know some people have had bad experiences with the owner but I swear, he has never been mean or rude to us. Sometimes he's quiet and other times he's more outgoing and friendly but he has never treated us badly. There. Now that's out of the way.
Very simply, the food is really, really good. After years of enjoying excellent fresh shrimp in Mexico, I gave up eating shrimp in the States because it just wasn't as good. Until I went to Balatazar's. The shrimp is flown in fresh and is the best this side of Tijuana. But all the food is good and we've never had a bad meal there. I will say I don't think the Margaritas or Mojitos are worth the money but they're okay if you want a cool, refreshing drink.
On our most recent trip, I was sick but it was my birthday so I went but didn't have much of an appetite. I ordered appetizers only and they were very good. The rest of my family all enjoyed their meals. Unfortunately, it was a month ago and I don't remember what everyone ate. They provided a free dessert for my birthday that was big enough for everyone at the table to share.
I will continue to eat at Baltazar's for special occasions - even if some reviewers think I'm a bad person (one nut said "right-wing racist") for doing it.
