On our latest trip to Bend, we decided to try a new place. Feeling like barbeque, we checked what people thought of those types of restaurants in Bend and settled on Baldy's. It would be a challenge to find if one was getting directions from a local, but a maps app substituted quite nicely, though with some moments of skepticism, such as when hearing "enter the round-a-bout, take the third right..." and similar. The parking is limited at this restaurant, we arrived after the adjacent business closed, their parking also filled except for a single space.
The restaurant itself is very basic and open, and they have some covered outdoor seating. We opted for the latter, escaping from some of the noise inside. Our server, Jasmine, was extremely gracious, the nicest server I've encountered in my entire life, decades of eating out. We were a bit undecided, she evidently picked up that we were from out of town, never rushing us, then-when needed-suggested the BBQ Extravaganza, $44. Now, this might sound like a lot for 2 people, and it is, but we didn't mind, as we were staying at a place with a refrigerator, and we needed some lunch material. The BBQ Extravaganza ended up supplying 2 days' worth. Comfortably. Jasmine even sent us home with all of the fixings, e.g. BBQ sauces. My favorites, in order, were the brisket, half smoked chicken, the baby back ribs, and the pulled pork. The sides were good, but nothing stood out, though I recall the AuGratin potatoes (unique menu offering) being better than the french fries and the coleslaw (homemade) besting the cornbread.
The bottom line: we'll return to Baldy's the next time we'e down that way.
