The innkeeper, Annie, is more like an old friend than an innkeeper. Her warmth and generosity, combined with the comfortable, pampering decor of the rooms, make the Hillside Inn a true gem. If you're looking for a true home-away-from-home, you'll find that and much more here. In my opinion, this has to be the best bed and breakfast in Bend!

This is the place to be if you want a warm, comforting atmosphere with a personal touch and presidential amenities!

Annie is your host and she is much more than that! If you are here to relax she will ask what kind of wine or sparkling cider you would like in your room when you arrive, and whether you like tea or coffee, apples, pears, popcorn, and gourmet chocalate. But that is just the tip of the iceberg.

She does not do the same thing for each person, and she will write down your information so that the next time you come you have a lovely chamomile tea in your basket since the last time you off-handidly mentioned it. She is just that good. She's a matra-D, but none of the snobbishness. Just warmth and true compassion.

On this visit I had to have a lovely belly surgery and knew just where to stay! The Hillside! Now Annie is an RN but downstairs she has this amazing studio suite to go with her skills. It is completly set-up for the recovering patient and if you would like she will even take care of your post-op recovery. The bathroom has handle bars and my faveorite- Towel Warmers!!

Annie knows luxury and comfort better than I could have ever imagined. I believe I will take a few of her ideas for my own. She could be charging unbelievable rates for this place but no one knows about it yet. Boy am I lucky! She deserves to be on the Map though so it would be far too selfish of me to keep her from it. Please check her and her home out. You will not be disappointed I absolutly promise!

  • Liked — HiDev TV that moves to just where I like it, wireless headphones for the TV, and a wonderful waterfall by my window.
  • Disliked — That we couldn't stay longer even because we had to go back.

We stayed at the Hillside B & B for one night in August. (that was the dissapointment as we should have reserved a longer stay)

Annie was very helpful in providing information on things we should do whilst in town and places to eat (If you like steak you MUST go to Gregs).

Our room was fantastic, a very comfortable bed and all the comforts you could ever want. Very much a home from home

I have stayed at many many well maintained B & B's but this was something special. The house was perfectly maintained and the attention to detail was amazing. Being a perfectionist myself couldnt fault the house.

Breakfast was superb, there was a great choice, nice and healthy and plenty to eat and drink. One of the many great things about the hillside B&B and Annie is that she takes time to ensure your happy and takes time to talk, she joined us at breakfast which was fun and very informative.

You couldnt ask more from the Hillside B&B and Annie. Dont make the mistake we made, reserve more than one night, you wont regret it.

Great Stay, plus Amazing Coincidence

We booked 3 nights at the Hillside Inn, greatly influenced by Tripadvisor reviews, and the positive reviews were right on target!
Lovely and quiet neighborhood, comfy room, sparkling clean hot tub, great bathroom amenities, plus Annie. Unlike most B&Bs, where it's "this is what we're serving for breakfast," at the Hillside Inn, Annie asks "what would you like for breakfast tomorrow?" And then, since we were the only guests those 3 nights, she joined us for breakfast and interesting conversation. And that's where the coincidence occured.

In breakfast conversation, we realize Annie is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Greg was born, and near where we live in a suburb. We then learn she attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, as did we. (Go Badgers!) Turns out, both Annie and Susie were in nursing school at UW, and then the realization hits that they graduated together!! Then the "do you remember Lynda, do you remember Glenda, do you remember Carlene" conversation got started, and Greg went to play golf. Annie even searched for college pictures and found a few. What fun! Also amazing is the fact that her oldest and second children have the same first and middle names as ours! It was a bit eerie, for sure.

In addition, Annie was/is a font of knowledge about Bend, lent us info to get us on good nearby hiking/walking trails, and was flexible enough to have Greg join her for golf one afternoon.

Bottom line, if we move to Bend sometime, we would be eager to have Annie as a friend; and if we don't move to Bend, staying at the Hillside Inn with Annie will be our first choice.

  • Liked — Lots: location, comfort, amenities, decorating, graciousness of hostess, breakfast.
  • Disliked — One of found the bed a bit too soft, the other one of us was fine with it.

Annie is a charming, knowledgable hostess and great cook who has thought of everything you could want. Absolutely the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in - we wanted to take it with us! We stayed in the Studio suite and didn't want to leave. The location is perfect, just a 5 minute walk from the river and Drake park and all the neat stuff that is in downtown Bend. A hearty five-star recommedation! Make your reservations early, Annie only has two rooms!
