We had stayed here once about 14 years ago, and loved it then. We had picked it then because we had our dog with us, but we picked it now (6/11/08) because we remember we loved the place.

We got a room on the top floor facing the water, and had an excellent view of the river running by. The room has a balcony with chairs so you can sit and sip a beer and watch the river....very peaceful.

The room was spacious and the beds very comfortable. It was clean and had a refrigerator, a microwave and a coffee maker. The only reason I don't rate this an "excellent" is it had a bit of a dated feel to it, but don't let that dissuade you. It's still a great place to stop in Bend. It was very quiet, even though the place looked to be packed on this Friday night. It was also hot this day, and the air conditioning worked very well (a pet peeve of mine on hot days...many hotels have poor AC).

The continental breakfast was fine, but the coffee was just so-so. You get what you pay for though! Good coffee is a rarity with free breakfasts. I liked that they had computer to use in the lobby as we didn't bring our laptop on this trip. The major issue I had with the breakfast area was there were not enough tables (just a few small ones outside). They need a few tables where they current have couches and chairs.

We decided for Shiloh Inn because of the rate we got and that it is a 2 star place. From the outside it is a really nice hotel, with several buildings in dark wood 2 floors high. In one of the buildings down the hill to the river you will find the indoor pool (we did not use it). We could park outside our room on 1st floor. What I did not like - the exterior corridors were carpeted with dirty and from the rain wet carpets. Not nice to look at. The room was spacious and quiet. I did not like the dark carpet though, was not sure if it was really clean. We hat got a fireplace in the room - first I thought this was a nice idea, but it did not work when I tried to turn it on. The room was on the dark side. There is a restaurant on premises and check-in was ok and quick. I found this place average and they can upscale it if they want to. At least I got the experience it was not really clean (especially not with those carpets right outside the room door).

Bend is awesome and we always enjoy our trips in this town. The Shilo inn is about a mile or two away from downtown. Parts of the Inn overlook the Deschutes river. If you can get one of the rooms with the river view, it is certainly plus. Service was adequate. Fitness room was terrible. Housekeeping was OK at best.

In a lovely setting on the banks of a river. Some rooms had wonderful views of this- ours didn't - In fact we didn't have a view of any kind ! Our room looked out on to an outside walk way - facing the Linen / store cupboard- it was very dark and had to have the lights on all the time even with the curtains(draps) open !! We had no bath stopper/plug and informed the maintenance staff who came to inspect but said they were unable to do anything about it as all the euipment was locked up for the night- we were offered a change of room, but at 10pm we decided to opt for a shower instead of a bath.
There was very little choice at breakfast.
We thought the price was rather expensive 80$ senior rate, however we were given a 10% reduction because of the missing bath plug.
I think this would be a lovely hotel if you stayed in one of the rooms facing the river, but obviously you get what you pay for here. beware!
