Bend is awesome and we always enjoy our trips in this town. The Shilo inn is about a mile or two away from downtown. Parts of the Inn overlook the Deschutes river. If you can get one of the rooms with the river view, it is certainly plus. Service was adequate. Fitness room was terrible. Housekeeping was OK at best.

In a lovely setting on the banks of a river. Some rooms had wonderful views of this- ours didn't - In fact we didn't have a view of any kind ! Our room looked out on to an outside walk way - facing the Linen / store cupboard- it was very dark and had to have the lights on all the time even with the curtains(draps) open !! We had no bath stopper/plug and informed the maintenance staff who came to inspect but said they were unable to do anything about it as all the euipment was locked up for the night- we were offered a change of room, but at 10pm we decided to opt for a shower instead of a bath.
There was very little choice at breakfast.
We thought the price was rather expensive 80$ senior rate, however we were given a 10% reduction because of the missing bath plug.
I think this would be a lovely hotel if you stayed in one of the rooms facing the river, but obviously you get what you pay for here. beware!

We needed to spend a night in Bend, and based on TripAdvisor reviews, decided to try the Shilo Inn and Suites.

The good news: The front desk clerk was friendly. The room was a great size with a fireplace. The beds were comfortable and the room was very clean. The location on the river is lovely. Bend is a beautiful city

The bad news: The decor: definitely dated. My kids loved the ancient clock radio, which looked like the one my parents had in the 80's. The pool didn't seem super clean. And oh my, the continental breakfast was LACKING. Everything pre-packaged and yucky.

Overall, it was a good experience and I'd stay overnight again, but probably not on an extended stay.

My two daughters and I stayed for two nights in August of 2006, so maybe some improvements have been made. It's not run down, but it definitely needs updating. It was probably quite nice when it first opened. Our neighbors were loud, and the indoor pool seemed to need a cleaning. The staff could use some training on customer service.

If you're on a budget and can get a deal, you could do worse. However, you can also do better.
