Ponzi is close in to the Portland Metro area so that made it an easy trip out there. However I have to say that compared to the other wineries we have visited this one is below average for several reasons.
First, one of the more enjoyable aspects of visiting vineyards is the scenery. Most tasting rooms sit on top of a hill with sweeping views of the winery below. Ponzi lacks this topography and view.
Secondly, the wine tasting was very overpriced. We paid $15.00 for a four wine flight, which is pretty high to start with. Added to that was the fact that the pours were very small. In fact the total of all pours was still not close to a full glass of wine. We have found the average tasting fee to be closer to $10.00 in other wineries, with more generous pours and at least four wines sampled and often a bonus wine for a 5th sample.
Finally, while the girl that was working the day we were there was very nice and friendly, she did not seem to have a lot of knowledge on the wines. We always learn something when we visit a winery but on this visit the girl struggled when asked follow up questions to statements she made when introducing a wine.
In the future I would bypass this winery and drive a little further to reach one of the other wineries.
