“First class restaurant in middle of old town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2014

Food quality and dining experience as good as anywhere. Pretty small place - we had reservations and good thing we did. Wine specials the day we were there were excellent and reasonably priced. My only criticism is the food portions on the main course were quite small.

“Excellent this visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2014

I have eaten at Alloro a number of times over the years. The food is almost always very good, but sometimes I have had some complaints about the the wait staff being abrupt or in too much of a rush. But last night was a very good visit on all counts. The food, starting with the stuffed zucchini blossoms and crab and avocado appetizers, on through the rack of lamb and halibut, was delicious. Dessert, the special, was a huge, rich, layered piece with local blackberries - killer good. Our waitress was perky and helpful, attentive without being intrusive and the timing for appetizers, food and coffee was just right. The wine list is good, and there are always a couple of specials. The restaurant itself is attractive and small - tending to get noisy if it is crowded, which it often is (make reservations) but a very good restaurant for a town this size and certainly recommended.

“Bad experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2014

We had read the reviews and looked forward to having good food in an upscale establishment. We felt the chowder was okay - too much fennel taste for us. The stuffed zucchini blossoms were good. However, we opted to forgo dinner and dessert because the entire experience was overshadowed by the staff of about 5 people who were loudly and busily moving tables around and past us, loudly talking to each other about the setup. It was like we weren't even there or important enough to be considered. One of the worst dining experiences we've had.

“Exceptional all the way around”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2014

This small restaurant is a gem. The staff is welcoming, the atmosphere is inviting and the food is delicious. We broke one of our traveling rules of not repeating a restaurant. After our first visit, we went back two evenings later. The pasta dishes are some of the best I have had. Everything tastes home made and locally sourced. The Charlotte cake, the week's special, is worth every calorie.

“Try the sorbets!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014

We found this restaurant to be excellent. The razor clams - one of my husband's favorite seafoods - were perfectly cooked. The crab chowder a lovely mixture of seafood - clams, baby shrimp, calimari. And the crab cocktail was all crab - no breading. We also enjoyed a delicious piece of halibut and a nicely seasoned crab and pasta with rich tomato sauce. The wine selection was excellent - nice selection with a wide range of prices. And then came the dessert - a black raspberry with lime gelato and a raspberry with fennel flower sorbet. Such interesting combinations of flavors - and they worked very well. Terrific service. We highly recommend this restaurant. .
