Bandon Dunes has to be the golf destination on the West Coast with three widely reviewed courses, and Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes highly rated in the Top 100 US courses in the golf mags. My golf partner and I drove from SF (9 hours, but not that bad a drive), and stayed in the Lily Pond rooms. Split between two of us, off-season, this was a real deal. Four rounds in two days left us a bit tired, but very satisfied. Weather: well, all kinds, including rain, wind, lightning, hail, and of course bright sun. A little disconcerting at first, but it turned out to be part of the golfing experience. Playing at home in the rain, no thanks... At Bandon, priceless, as they say. Just get a good rain suit. Out of four rounds at the end of March, only about five holes were played in severe weather... the rest, very comfortable and enjoyable. I agree with some of the other reviews: if you're over an 18 index, this is going to be frustrating, so give yourself a break when you play. Golf is challenging, but not unfair (well, maybe #16 on Trails and #13 on Pacific have greens that are too tricked out). Accomodations are very nice, and fitting the rustic environment. Dinner is pricey, but didn't find much in the town of Bandon to substitute. Service is excellent at all levels. Not a family vacation, but a great golfing adventure! There's a fourth course in development for 2010...
