My husband and I drive to Eastern Oklahoma several times per year, and we've stayed at every chain in McAlester, and were unhappy with them all. We decided after reading Tripadvisor reviews to try the CandleLight Inn.
The CandleLight Inn is not actually in McAlester but south of McAlester in Savannah. It stands by itself on the east side of Highway 69.
The lobby is large and spacious. I called in advance to confirm our reservation and told the front desk we would be checking in between 6 and 7PM. At 6:15, I walked through the door, and the desk clerk addressed me by name. I was impressed. I was about to get more impressed. The lobby is a large room with fire place and well appointed. We were given our key and directions to our room. The hallway is large enough to drive a golf cart through. We opened the door and got quite a surprise. The room was almost as large as my apartment on the East Coast.
There was a sleeper sofa and coffee table, several recent magazines were available on the coffee table along with a few mints and hard candies and a floor lamp. There was a dorm size refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. Small table with two chairs, floor lamp and computer ports, and a few mints and hard candies on the table. There were two night stands, lamps on each night stand, with mints and hard candies on each night stand. An old fashioned luggage bench, geez I had forgotten how handy these were, since hotels rarely provide these any more. TV is the old style TV with limited channels. More than adequate ceiling lights and lamps available provide as much brightness as needed and are conveniently located throughout the room. Very comfortable bed with ample pillows and blankets. The room was more than spacious. The bathroom is small and dated but absolutely spotless. Although the furniture and carpeting are not new, they have been excellently maintained.
More impressive, is the quietness of these rooms. We went to dinner next door at The Overlook, that's another review. Food is fabulous, its pricy for McAlester, but for me, compared to Dallas prices, it was a bargain. See their facebook page.
The price of this hotel was about half of those in McAlester. There is no reason to stay in McAlester and every reason to drive the few more miles to stay here.
