During early visits to Oklahoma City, how I wished there had been some cultural offering that showed more about the African American experience in Oklahoma. Here was the venue. The "center" is a misnomer, as it really is a sponsor of many very fine cultural offerings in various convenient locations in the Metro area. It's probably best known for sponsoring the Charlie Christian Music festival. This offering draws top line international talent and is worth a trip to Oklahoma all for itself (although you'd be crazy not to take in some of the other cultural offerings while in town). For Oklahomans and visitors alike, the Black Liberated Arts Center plays a superb role in adding depth and dimension to Oklahoma culture by shattering stereotypes and educating in a delightful, family-friendly way. Young and old, all ethnicity and income levels will appreciate this. Give it a try.
