We've eaten at various Dickey's restaurants in Texas, and have been generally pleased with them. However, a few have not lived up to expectations. We were interested to see if the store in Norman, Oklahoma was like the "good" stores we've encountered.
I'm happy to say that not only is it "good", it may be the best Dickey's we've ever visited!
This store serves some of the best barbecue in Norman, and does so at a reasonable price. We are partial to the Family Pack, which provides two ample pounds of smoked meats, three sides and six rolls for $34.00....less than $6.00 per person! For larger groups, they offer the XL Family Pack with three pounds of meat.
The brisket and polish sausage are delicious, but we were unexpectedly delighted by their turkey...it's wonderful. We've tried most of the side items and found them to be very good accompaniments to the meat.
Dickey's offers three sauces to compliment their meats: original, spicy, and sweet. You can help yourself to sauces, and to the large dill pickles during the meal. Afterward, you can make your own ice-cream cone or cup.
The biggest problem with this store is its location on the east side of town. It's in a great place for residents on that side of Norman, and for people going out to Lake Thunderbird. However, many Norman hotels are on the west side of town. In our opinion, the trip is worth it.
