“Convenient stop over on the way across Oklahoma”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

we stayed here on the way east with our camper. Beautiful spots to park a camper, right on the salt fork of the Arkansas River. Lots of insects here, especially in the restrooms. Ugh. But there are few places to stay crossing this part of Oklahoma. We picked this place for its location. A good choice for a stopover!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights while in the area to dig selenite crystals. There is not much information available about this area online - or in the travel guides for the state. This state park is about 8 miles from the town of Jet. That is the closest place for ice or other provisions you may need at a convenience store. A grocery and restaurants are in Cherokee, OK. The campground was ok - but I have never camped at a state park with no attendants on duty. No one was in the information center (4pm on Sat), no gate house, no campground host....nothing! We drove around trying to find the different loops of the campgrounds because there was no place to obtain a map of the park. We found a nice site and set up camp in a primitive section close to the spillway. The site had trees (nice wind block) a grill, fire ring, picnic table with roof and a water spigot. Vault toilets were close by and there is a shower house in the electric/water part of the campground. We asked a woman leaving the shower house where/who we pay to camp and were told 'the ranger will find you'. A ranger did stop by later and we paid the $12 per night fee. He put my name and town of residence on the receipt (no address, license number or any detailed info) and when I asked where I should display it (no posts, clips, numbers or anything on the sites) he told me just to hold onto it. Then I was told he would be there on Sunday....and NO ONE was working Monday or Tuesday!! I have no problems camping, but being 2 women alone with NO cell phone service in the area it would have been nice to know that SOMEONE was working and patrolling on those days. We didn't have any problems and the people we met were wonderful and friendly as campers usually are. In the RV section many of the units seem to be permanent with decks, skirting and other things around. I have never camped in a state park where you could stay on a space for more than a couple weeks - but no where are there any rules about camping here. It is convenient if you are exploring this area, clean and has the basics that you will need to camp. Maybe during June-Aug there is more going on??
