After booking a non-smoking room, I called the Best Western Territorial Inn in Guthrie, Oklahoma to make certain there were no smoking rooms surrounding ours. I was assured. Upon arriving and checking in at the desk, my mother and I opened the door from the lobby to our hallway and were met with the reeking odor of old cigarette smoke. As we walked down the hall to our room, my mother said she did not know if she could stand to stay there. Thankfully, the room was a bit better, having been thoroughly sprayed with air freshener. The hallway, stairwell and vestibule to the back parking lot door all REEKED of stale cigarette smoke. The parking lot was strewn with hundreds of cigarette butts, most right at the back door - and I mean RIGHT at the back door, making it obvious people were smoking inside and tossing the butts out. Our room was adequate, bedding clean except for the end of bed covering. The bathroom floor was dirty, and in the corners, filthy. The plastic bathroom cups were not replenished and the A/C had a musty odor. All in all, not the best of experiences for our family reunion. I will not say all Best Westerns have this problem as each is independently owned, but it certainly gave us a bad impression of the franchise. To stay again at Best Western, I'd have to see the place in person, not just online. For now, I'm just a bit leery.
