I was told about this place by Matt at Aspen Coffee-Lakeview in Stillwater. The young couple (new parents) have put together more than just a coffee shop. They are an authentic on-site roaster - as in the name.
Hoboken resides in a space much like what I liked most from the heyday of midwest (Ohio/Indiana) coffeehouses in the 70s. Someday they may be as big as Staufs in Columbus, O. and they are already nicer people, so start your association today.
The music is vinyl.
Like Evoke in Edmond and Foolish Things in Tulsa they serve sparkling water to cleanse your palate before you coat your mouth with the (hopefully long-lasting) flavor of a good espresso (should persist ~ 20 minutes IMO).
As explained to me, the beans for my espresso were a blend of "Central American" coffees. It was bright, but not acidic, and had some good chocolate flavor. Not as bright as what I had on my first visit to Evoke (Columbian/Central from a California roaster) but that is not a criticism. I dislike too much brightness, and Evoke's was on the edge. They have since run out of that, and this blend at Hoboken was definitely better than whatever I was served last time in Edmond. Maybe Evoke needs to consider this in-state roaster as a supplier.
Like I say, Hoboken has a good espresso blend, their machine is top notch and the crema dark and tasty, and the most impressive thing is that it is locally roasted - right there - not imported from elsewhere. So, they will only get better and better with time, so don't neglect them now. Help them get started by stopping often. I plan to.
p,s, this is not a hipster place like Evoke, nor repulsively condescending like Double Shot in Tulsa - more positives!
