“Great family gathering location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

My family stayed in the Main House #1 plus the Honeymoon Cottage next door as we gathered for a family wedding elsewhere on Grand Lake. The accommodations fit our needs perfectly and any requests we had were always taken care of promptly and courteously. The grounds were well cared for and our grandchildren enjoyed the playground area. It was a lovely lakeside setting and if we ever have occasion to go to Oklahoma again, would certainly consider having a family gathering at Candlewyck Cove Resort with all of its lodging options. Mike and Melanie were excellent hosts and managers of the property.

Room Tip: the Frank Lloyd Wright Main House is an ideal location with a serene setting... the house is dated a...

We stayed here for our anniversary and had a great time. The King Suite was clean and had plenty of room with a separate sitting area and private hot tub on the balcony. The staff was very welcoming, courteous and willing to help. The grounds were in excellent condition and attractive. On the weekends, they have a hot breakfast which included fresh fruit, waffles, biscuits and gravy, etc. We have already recommended this resort to other family members.

This was the best lake visit EVER. We've traveled to many states and stayed at many lakeside hotels, resorts, and campgrounds and have never come across one as excellent as this. Room options are varied and can serve any occasion. Any of the rooms are close to the water. Boat and Jet Ski rentals are reasonably priced and the equipment is in excellent condition. You won't find better folks managing a property like this, either - just amazing. I highly recommend staying here when you're in the area!!! Hey... Melanie & Mike.... see ya next time! Thank you for everything!

Room Tip: If there are just 2 of you.. the honeymoon suite rocks!!! Right by the water! The hot tub rocks too...

Overall the resort and stay was very nice. We stayed in the honeymoon cottage which was on the water. The room was nice but the jacuzzi in the room ran out of hot water after it reached 5 inches in the tub. Not my idea of a romatic bath. The staff was nice but disorganized. We had reserved a boat, sun tracker, but when we got to dock, it was not the boat we had rented. We questioned this but the manager said this pontoon is the boat you rented. We didn't push it, but then they tried to start this boat and the battery was dead. They charge it for a while and we asked, "what happens it the battery dies again while we were out on the lake?" We had never driven a boat before. The manager said, "just call my cell phone". This did not inspire confidence. We were supposed to have it from 8:30am to 12:30 pm, but by now it was 9 am. This is when they realized they had put us on the wrong boat and switched us to the sun tracker. It started fine and we made it out of the marina and out to some of the coves. It was windy so we looked for an anchor. Did not have one. Had to go all the way back to marina and get anchor. I asked if we could extend our time due to all the delays. The manager looked at his clipboard and said you have it for the whole day. I asked him to check with the office because we only paid for half a day. He assured us our receipt said all day. I asked him to check with the office/his wife and make sure. Gave him our cell number but he never called back. After a while on the lake we called his cell but no answer. We came back to the dock at 12:30pm and no one was there. Since we hadn't heard from anyone we parked the boat and went to get some lunch. Came back, no phone call so we assumed we had been comped the boat for the rest of the day. When came back at 5pm we turned the keys over, and went to the office to check in. Melanie, the office manager informed us that we owed another $200 because we kept the boat all day. We told her about the issues above and that we tried to get her husband to clarify, but she very sternly told us that we knew we had only rented the boat for half day. We were willing to pay for half day but my husband pointed out to her that a full day was only $150 more not $200. She was agreeable to this. I told her I would be filing a grievance and she quickly changed her mind and said she was voiding our entire boat billing, She was not very nice about it and we told her we were happy to pay for the whole day but were not satisfied with how disorganized and how she had handled our arrangement. She dismissed us and we left. Despite the nice accomodations and the great free breakfast, I doubt we will be back. They need to improve their communication and processes for renting boats. Shannon and Steve Archer.

My family has been going to Candlewyck since before we were even a family. We've always had great accomodations and service and this Labor Day was no different. We stayed in one of the newer 2 bed, 2 bath cabins with a washer and dryer. After a day on the lake I could wash the suits and towels and get them ready for the next day. Loved that!! The kitchen was great; large with new appliances all around. They had added the new fire pit, basketball court, tetherball poll and playground equipment since the last time we had stayed. That was a nice addition and the kids really enjoyed it. Melanie and Mike were great to deal with, as always, and helped us with anything we needed (marshmallow screwers for s'mores). We rented a boat from H2O Sports Rental for a couple days. It was great to be able to take care of all our reservations in one place. They helped us down to the dock with our gear and gave us a ride back up when we were done. The only problem we had with the boat was that we should have rented it longer :) The kids had a blast! Candlewyck is always our first choice when visiting Grand Lake. We look forward to many, MANY more trips. Melanie and Mike - thanks for taking care of us again!!
