We recently stopped by Ted's Cafe Escondido and found their Mexican food to be pretty good. This place is very popular, we had to wait almost 45 minutes for lunch on a Friday. We found the food to be good but not stellar, made the long wait rather questionable for what was served on the day. Might return in the future.
During our lunch, chips, salsa and queso were served while we were ordering. The chips were crispy and very good. The salsa and the hotter salsa version were both very tasty as well (rating 4 of 5). Queso was also served but it was cool and tasted bland.
Our meal orders included one order to soft tacos that were rather standard and average affair, nothing bad but nothing great either (rating 3 of 5). We also tried two enchiladas with sour-cream sauce. The chicken was well-seasoned but very dry and tough to chew and the dish was served at room temperature (rating 2.75 of 5). In the end, not a great enchilada serving that would easily have been better.
We also ordered the Supreme Nachos that were good but not great. The chips were large in size and sturdy and held up the smoothing layer of cheese quite well. The cheese did taste nice, however, we were disappointed with the very small size of the other toppings and we couldn't find any of the jalapenos that were supposed to be baked into the nachos. Sour cream and guacamole, which was very fresh and tasty, were served on the side. In the end, we didn't feel this was a great version of the Supreme Nacho, compared to what is served at many Mexican restaurants across the States due to the lack of toppings (rating 3 of 5). For better Supreme Nacho orders, you can try Abuelos, which has several branches in OKC.
Meal was concluded with sopapilla, which is a fried bread pastry that is coated with sugar and served with honey. This one at Ted's was good and tasted as we expected. Ordered a frozen house margarita that was very friendly but also overly sweet, lacking the expected tequila required to make a better margarita. Ice Tea drinks were fine.
Overall, we enjoyed out meal at Ted's Cafe Escondido. Nothing we tried here was stellar but all was generally good. We would potentially consider eating here again, but the long queues are a turn-off to be fair. Would suggest trying to secure reservations if possible or simply try somewhere else for Mexican food if you don't want to wait a long time for your meal.
