“Good hotel in a nice location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

We stayed here during our trip to Summit Raceway Park. The hotel was clean, and although we did not have breakfast there, it smelled delicious! The hotel room was a little musty when we first walked in, and we had to use the A/C the entire time to help that out. Other than that, it was a clean room and a clean bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. We did not visit the pool. The parking was good, and the hotel was in a good location right off of Route 2. The rate of the room was good, especially compared to other hotels in Elyria, Sandusky, Norwalk, etc.

Needed a few nights' stay for my family's last minute trip to Cedar Point, but most hotels in Sandusky and surrounding area were already booked. Found the last room in this hotel with good and bad points.

First the good: free hot breakfast, firm beds, soft towels (really), pleasant staff (esp. Jennifer).

For the bad: no automatic front doors; too expensive for being 30 mins from Cedar Point; no WiFi in our room for 3 days even when the hotel was empty during the day.

Now for the worst bad point: there was a (major) BAD smell that hits you as soon as you step in the room which seemed to come from the A/C unit. Front desk was unaware of this issue and though they tried to help, smell persisted, and we finally had to turn off the air in order to sleep and breathe for the last 2 nights. First night was too late and we were too tired from our day of driving to call for maintenance. Opening the window 3 inches was not an option as it was August and there was no screen anyway.

The bad smell was an inconvenience to our stay and a disappointment to our trip.

Room Tip: The smelly room was 135 on the right side of the hallway leading to the pool and facing the farm at...

We were on our way home from Michigian when we took a detour to Cedar Point for the evening. We ended up in Vermillion too tired to go any further. We saw the sign on the the turnpike and were very pleased with our choice! The front desk attendant was very courteous , the last room avaiable was clean, and check in was quick! Defiantly would do it again!

I have stayed at this location multiple times over the last few years. I am amazed that several of the staff are the same. It is a sign of the consistent quality of the hotel. Hot Breakfast included. Varies by day ( two of my stays including this last one was six days). Staff are typically very helpful. I had an issue with our toilet and they could not get a maintenance person at night but I was able to fix it and it was fine. In typical things staff are very attentive. I stay in the suites so the rooms are well appointed and rates reasonable.

We were sent here when the first HI we tried (closer to Cleveland) was full. This one is a bit in the middle of nowhere (although close to the theme park) but we were very pleasantly surprised. Staff were very, very nice and welcoming. The whole building seemed brand new, so amenities were in good condition, the pool was clean and refreshing, and everything looked really nice. We got a great night of sleep and then had breakfast in the lobby. It was continental plus extras like scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and cinnamon rolls. My inner child was mesmerized by the pancake machine that made pancakes on a conveyor belt 2 at a time :).

Honestly, the only complaint I had, and it's small but, I really thought they should have had the automatic sliding doors in the front to make bringing in luggage easier. As it was, we struggled to drag our stuff through two heavy doors.

This place wasn't really cheap but we appreciated the quality of it for the price. And they do offer a AAA discount.

I've stayed here and number of times of the past years and the property seems to have slipped a bit. Our room had an odor that was a mix of musty/food odors that is obvious as you step foot in the room. With taxes, I paid almost $200 for the night. Most of the jets in the jetted jacuzzi tub didn't work or barely worked. My very good rating is generous based on previous stays and hopes that this visit was out of the ordinary. Staff is pleasant and helpful and breakfast was good, although the weekend hours, 630-930am, are kind of early - most places adjust the hours up a little on the weekends. Also, housekeeping banged on the door around 9am wanting to clean - on a Sunday morning!

We recently stopped here on our way from PA to IL. The hotel is about a 15-20 minute drive from the Ohio Turnpike. It is clean and quiet. The beds were a little softer than we prefer, but that wasn't a deal breaker. The price seemed higher than I would expect for what we got, but I attribute that to the hotel's proximity to Cedar Point. I would probably stay here again in the future if we drive between PA and IL and need a stopping point.
