In downtown right on the Maumee River. Located between 2 major highways made travel easy. Didn't have much time to explore but I had a chance to dine just across the river - there are several different types of cuisine with riverfront dining. About an hour from Downtown Detroit if you want to catch a Tigers game or you can see the AAA Mudhens only 4 blocks from the hotel.
The hotel was clean and quiet. Best parking option was Valet. Overall, I was happy with my stay here.

WE had the most amazing stay at the Crown Plaza Toledo. The staff was the best I have encountered anywhere. They were polite, friendly and coulod not do enough to assist and get things right the first time. The restaurant was exceptional!!! The desk staff great and we had a slight problem withy the card entry and the fellow who fixed it was great. It is hard to believe there are negative comments if this is how the have worked in the past.

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza last week, and was pleasantly surprised, after reading the other reviews. Some of my colleagues in our Toledo office said they have stepped up their service, and it showed. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the hotel is pleasantly situated on the riverfront. The only bad experience was the ridiculously overpriced breakfast in the restaurant, which was severely understaffed. However, I did have room service one evening, and the meal was excellent, and the service great. At $72 for the night, this place is quite a value. I'd recommend staying here, and catching a Mud Hens game!

Management response from Larry Ross, General Manager
(Management representative)
May 20, 2009
Thank you for recognizing the positive changes we have made in guest comfort and service delivery. We are fortunate to have just completed major renovations, however when hotel HVAC and mechanical systems were shutdown we experienced some lingering restart problems. I am happy to say we have solved the issues and have reliable heating and cooling in all guestrooms and public space. Our staff has worked hard to overcome these problems and remain focused on providing a
superior guest experience.

I have stayed at this hotel the last two times I have been in Toledo. My last trip here which was in January, I had to change rooms 3 times. The first room had no heat and they sent engineering up who said there really wasn't much he could do about it, but he would check the pipes in the boiler room. Also the phones in the room did not work at all. So I had to go down to the front desk to complain and she gave me another room and assured me that engineering had checked and that the heat did work. Well I went to the other room and yes the heat worked but I could hear a dripping noise. So I went to look in the bathroom and there was 3 inches of standing water in the bath tub and it was just constantly dripping from the faucet.

When I went back to the front desk I asked the front desk agent if I could speak to the General Manager. She called someone and said he was in a meeting but she would leave him a message to call me. I said well you need to find me a room that has heat and has a bathroom that works. She finally got me a room for the one other night I was there. At 5:30pm the General Manager called me and all he said was that he was new and had only been there for a week. Like I cared how long he had been there. The customer is always right!

So this trip I arrived and was given my room key. I wasn't expecting anything good as it was bad in January. So I wasn't too shocked to find a problem with my room. I got to my room which ended in an even number and the rain was coming in from the window and was puddling up all over the window area. So I went down to the front desk and was told "yeah we are having a problem with the even number rooms with the way the rain is blowing and it is just going to be like that." Well NO!! I need a room that it is not raining in. So I get an odd number room and it is fine in there.

Well my story is not over yet. I then get a knock on my door at 8:30 in the evening with someone saying they are from engineering. I did not open the door and said I didn't call for anything to be fixed. He says that he needs to take a picture of the wireless connection. I said I don't have any issues with the wireless connection and he says I've been here for 2 days and you are the last room I just need to take a quick look and get a picture. UH NO!!! I'm a woman traveling by myself and you expect me to open the door to you and I have been told nothing by the front desk of you coming up.

So when I called the front desk of course there is no manager on duty and the girl says that she thought they were all done by now.

So needless to say this will be my last stay at this PIT OF A HOTEL!!!! Don't bother and go to the Hilton instead.

I am from Chicago and I work in the hotel industry so I immediately know good service when I see it. This hotel has changed hands many, many times but it usually manages to maintain itself. One tends to lower ones expectations when staying in a small city like Toledo anyhow. We were greeted at check in around 8pm by a very warm and friendly African American front desk agent whose name escapes me (it began with a G and was rather complicated). She couldn't have been nicer and more helpful but upon entering our room we discovered a few things were out of sync:
1.) There was no garbage can in the room
2.) There was no alarm clock in the room, as I said I have stayed here many times and this is the first time I encountered this
3.) There was no phone in the room! When we contacted engineering to bring us a phone he hooked up a phone with a blank keypad no Crowne Plaza logo or indications of what buttons to push for wake-up calls, room service etc
4.) We called for ice and were told there was an ice machine on our floor. We were directed to an area that had all of the equipment (hoses etc) for an ice machine but no physical machine just an empty spot with plumbing sticking out of the wall.
The female night auditor we encountered was absolutely terrific. She arranged for us a shuttle service to take us to and from local nightlife. The gentleman who drove the shuttle, Patrick, was really great! He knew just where to take us and was wating for us outside at the agreed upon time for a return ride!
However, the next day, I encountered an extremely rude employee whose name unfortunately escapes me. He is a young man in his mid-twenties with short blonde hair who was tacky enough to not only not wear a tie and sport coat behind the front desk (something you would expect from any Crowne Plaza front desk agent) but he had his shirt unbuttoned halfway down so that his chest was exposed...something I did NOT need to be subjected to! This guy is just plain RUDE! When I tried to ask him for directions he was apparently to busy texting on his personal cellular phone to deal with me since he not only refused to look up from the phone but actually put his hand up and said "Hold up". Then when I asked this guy for directions he simply told me, again looking down at his phone "I'm not from around here...I just relocated here so I have no clue what you're talking about."
I am sure that the quality of service will improve with time, especially since Crowne Plaza only recently re-aquired this property and when you consider your alternatives when staying in Toledo this is not all that bad but someone needs to tell this guy to BUTTON UP HIS SHIRT!
