Owner description: The Westcott House was built in 1908 for Burton J. And Orpha L. Westcott. The Westcott property is the only Prairie style house designed by Wright in the state of Ohio. The grounds include the main house and a garage with pony stable connected by an extensive pergola. In 1946, due to the housing crisis following World War II, the house was divided into multiple apartments. The house no longer reflected the vision of its architect. The original furniture and most of the original light fixtures and other details were removed from the house. Lack of resources led to an extreme deterioration of the structure. The house has recently undergone an inch-by-inch $5.8 Million restoration. Each of its features-from art glass to original hardware and hand-decorated encaustic walls to massive urns-has been returned to its 1908 appearance. Furniture has been rebuilt according to Wright's specifications and gardens re-landscaped in keeping with the time. The house in now manages by a non-profit organization. Our mission is to preserve and interpret the Westcott House, promote historic preservation and inspire creativity and innovation through architecture and design education. In addition to tours of Wright's masterpiece, Westcott Center for Architecture + Design offers innovative educational programming throughout the year, including Summer Walking Tour Series. Take a guided tour of the Westcott House and learn about the Prairie Style home Frank Lloyd Wright designed for industrialists and entrepreneurs Burton J. And Orpha Westcott and their two children. Experience Frank Lloyd Wright's timeless designs and a world-class restoration project.

“Prairie Style Gem in Ohio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

This house was saved within the last eight years and thank goodness it was. A fine example of Wright's prairie style architecture, this is a fine piece of work in Springfield, Ohio. Excellent guide (jim) who actually lived in the house when it was convirted to apartments. Wasn't too impressed with the City of Springfield, which I think has seen better days but visiting this house was definitely worth the drive over for me. Make sure you visit if you are in Western Ohio. Very easy to find off I-70.

“Very inventive for it's time.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Found the workmanship to be outstanding and the thought that went into the design to be outstanding for such an old home. They have done a nice job of restoring it and hope it stays this way.

“Out and About”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

Springfield, OH is a tourist destination and not just a stopover. The historical locations are significant in number and worth stopping to experience first hand. Among them is the Westcott House, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home that has been ranked among the top of this man's architectural legacy. Restored at the cost of millions, the Westcott House has been converted to a museum. A rarity that is open to the public. There is a gift shop, guided tours, as well as off street parking. Experience the world of Frank Lloyd Wright and how the Westcott House was created for one of America's earliest hand crafted car manufacturers.

“Put this on your todo list”

“Hooisergadabout’s” review [12 June 2012] is a good tutorial that every prospective visitor should read prior to visiting The Westcott House.
I also agree with “Incredible Renovation” [10 April 2012] that the movie is a must-see for visitors to fully appreciate the extent of deterioration to the structure prior to this ambitious renovation project.
My wife and I have visited about 18 different FLW structures and found this one to be one of the most interesting [they are all interesting] due to the extent of the renovation.
As they seem to be at every FLW location, our docent was very knowledgeable about the project and encouraged her guests to ask challenging questions.
In summary, I am not sure what I expected at the start of the tour, but my expectations were exceeded.

Our tour was wonderful....and we learned a great deal about both the designer and the builders of this wonderful estate.
