“Mad River Mountain Ski Excursion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

My best friend and I decided we needed to get away this past weekend so we opted to go skiing. I've never been actually been skiing outside of Ohio so I wasn't sure what to expect with the hotels nearby. I did some extensive researching through TripAdvisor and other sites and realized that the closest hotels were in Marysville and Bellefontaine but they didn't seem like great choices. I knew we'd have an hour or so drive from Springfield up to the Mad River Mountain Ski Resort instead of the sub-30 minute drive but again the price and distance to restaurants felt worth it.

As for the stay at the hotel it was great! The staff were very warm and accomodating. The breakfast buffet was awesome and very filling! The hot tub although small was perfect for the two of us to relax in after our drive and would have probably been very nice after skiing but we were too wiped out to even change into our swimming trunks. The room was spaciou and the bed was quite comfortable with one exception, both nights the bottom sheet on my bed came unwrapped itself from the corners of the bed (perhaps they've shrunk over time).

Also some guests in other reviews mentioned the train that passes behind the hotel. I never woke up when it came through but I did notice it when I was awake. So if you're a light sleeper you may want to ask to be on the opposing side of the hotel. Our balcony room actually afforded a view of the train when it passed by but again I didn't wake up to it.

Reviewed this hotel 5 years ago and found a similar incredible front staff but with the addition of a great chef. The soups are incredible and everyone in the hotel and bar were raving about his creativity.

Note that the breakfast is not his; it has the usual stuff, but you can request eggs cooked to order.

Internet in lobby had some issues, but the place and helpfulness of the staff make up for that.

Room Tip: Room hint: don't go for the adjouning rooms if you're a light sleeper. The front desk did...

Staff was great. Very clean rooms. Bathrooms were very clean. Heard about the train noise as well. Trains cannot blow their whistle at night. Heard one of the trains during two night stay only because of a really loud person in the hallway woke me up at the same time the train was coming thru. Wife is a very light sleeper and not one woke her up.
Travel tip when staying at any hotel downtown. Stay away from the other side of the tracks after dark and rent a car with Ohio plates. We rented a car with out of state plates and some person drove into the well lit parking lot with some sad story needing money. The " I need gas money to make it home, which is 75 miles away and I'll mail it back to you" story. Needless to say, I will stay there again when coming back to town.

Thid hotel was nice but threre is a "really" loud train that goes by at night several times. The air conditioner couldn't even drown out the noise. This isn't a typical courtyard by marroitt. Seems like an older hotel redone. We had a balcony room that looked over a beautiful park and nice historic buildings but also the train tracks. There were weddings there each night and people woke us up each morning in the hallway seemed like they were in our room the doors were so thin. Beautiful area but will see what hotels are in the area next time we go to Springfield for another horse show especially for the price. Also internet connection was terrible. Was hoping for much better experiece for such a nice area.

The hotel is clean and rooms have been updated. Closet space is very small. No refrig in room. Coffee and a paper are the only freebies. The wi-fi is very slow and provides an inconsistent connection. Restaurant service is slow and prices are high. I checked on-line and there are better hotels with more amenities, in better parts of town, for slightly more or at the same rate as this hotel. Just no incentive to choose this hotel over the competition.

We have stayed at this Courtyard motel many times. Every stay has been the same. We have enjoyed: a large, spotless room, a fine breakfast at a reasonable price, a friendly checkin, and a no hassles checkout with every visit.

Springfield is in the pocess of actively improving the downtown area. The Courtyard is well positioned inside the improvement area.

Room Tip: Let the desk clerk help you. They will do their best to meet your needs.

We stayed at this hotel two nights on our way to Philly. The staff were all nice. We asked at the front desk about two restaurants we saw on the way to the hotel. We were told they were not that great but "their hotel" restaurant was fantastic. The room was nice and clean. We checked out the menu in the room (they had room service) and found the prices were extremely expensive. We ended up eating the next day at one of those restaurants that we were told were not that great, and it was very delicious. We chose not to eat in the hotel restaurant due to the high prices. Parking is several lots two of which are away from the front door. Yes, there are trains going by all night long. There is nothing close to the hotel to do or eat. You have to drive to everything. The area also is sketchy. I would not walk this area alone.

On our way back from Philly we stayed at this hotel again (just to sleep this time and already had reservations). We left at 4:00am to head home and found that two hubcaps had been stolen off our car while in the parking lot. To say the least, your car is probably not safe in this hotel lot. They have a big sign at the front desk to hide and take belongings out of your car and lock it. This tells me they know they have an issue in the parking lot. I never once saw any type of security.

Will we stay here again, probably not. The room rate was fair.
